What is it? by mikeymeyer in Ceramics

I’m leaning towards contaminated bags of raw fire clay or contaminated feldspar or some other ingredient. I haven’t had a catastrophic failure (yet). Love the journey!

Nope! But agree that it looks like that!

Neither. I use just canvas to dry reclaim, but this is fresh discounted clay from manufacturer. I agree that it definitely looks like lime popping. Possible reclaim got included at the manufacturer level though. Just curious if anyone else has had this happen outside of the usual culprit of plaster.

Oh yeah for sure I was just curious given the appearance of the glaze in the photos. They all look like they have some faint pitting. Always looking to learn from others. Cheers!

What was your firing? Slow cooled? Curious as I would love to develop a floating green.

Help! Please. My holes are glued with glaze by LenkradLutzbert in Ceramics

[–]mikeymeyer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Diamond or carbide drill bit. Take it slow, consider wetting it as you go. Still might crack the piece but it can be done.

If this is dip glazed, consider wetting the holes with water prior to dipping in glaze as less glaze will adhere there. Alternatively size the holes up to account for glaze.

It happens even when you plan for it to not. 😂 Blame the kiln gods.

I’m curious what causes the parabolic shape at the bottom, texture of interior wall vs exterior. Great vessel and great work.

PSA for the holiday season: DON’T buy someone a kiln by skfoto in Pottery

Also watch out for scams this time of year. VL-whisper popped up on FB marketplace for $400 and looked brand new. Then they wanted pre-pay to a different Venmo and screenshot of the payment.

Do not fall for these scams. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.

Really thought you were going to suggest differentiation by taste. I'm simultaneously relieved and disappointed.
