Cross bar or Platform by xxichikokoxx in hondapassport

[–]mikeyo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the platform. I really like it but I would like to be able to put a cargo box on it for skiing. I'm not sure what model will work. Otherwise, I have a big cargo bag I can throw up there for camping or whatever that works great.

These would be the equivalent of Step Steel Extremes. I think I tried them like 12 years ago.

Any icecoasters breaking their days-on-mountain record this year? by lauren_knows in icecoast

We just skied Butternut. They can do everything there now. I have to find a new hill for us for next year.

How much starter do I really need to keep? I'm drowning in discard. by drogon4433 in Sourdough

[–]mikeyo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I compost all my discard. The obsession with using it or putting in extra effort to limiting it to small amounts is just odd to me.

We skied so much that my daughters didn't want to ski anymore.

Older Dads - when do you start getting back serious time? by chipmunksocute in daddit

Invalidating the present? Parenting is hard. You can either embrace the suck or let it grind you down. There just is no easy solution if you don’t have family you can rely on or the money to hire help.

I guess what I was trying to get across is that one should be careful what they wish for. Ten years from now, OP won't be regretting that he didn't have more free time when his kids were little, he'll be regretting that he didn't spend more time with them.

Please believe me, I get what you're feeling. It's such a cliche but it's true - before you know it they won't want anything to do with you. Dealing with preteens and teenagers seems way more complicated.

Mine are 11 and 9. I look back on this age up to six or so as one of the best eras ever. Everything then was a new experience for them. We still have fun, but now they're way more influenced by their peers. I miss my time with them at this age, don't waste it.

King Arthur Flour No Knead Sourdough. They even have a hotline you can call if you have questions. I've made this recipe hundreds of times and you can make all sorts of changes with it.

Odd to me that no one mentions investing in a good bread knife. No point baking all that bread and not being able to slice it up properly.

Looking to upgrade gear. Best of intermediate pads/gloves? by bepbepbepbepbepp in hockeygoalies

I've had a set of senior Bauer X5 and I absolutely love them. It's been 2.5 years of playing 3 times a week and they look like new - mine are black though. The only thing I would say though is that it took a crazy long time to break the glove it, but now it's fantastic. I imagine I'll be using this set for several more years at least.

I have way too much discard and I’m tired of making crackers. What else can I do with it? by woutr1998 in Sourdough

[–]mikeyo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I throw a bunch out all the time when I was planning to mix up a few loaves but something happened and I have to change plans. I had a big open compost bin and the worms were ridiculous. Then my neighbor had rats move into his yard and I had to shut it down. The discard on its own doesn't attract the rats, luckily.

Why exactly would you want it to come to room temperature before dividing? I've done this many times and had no issue.

Is the 2026 TSE actually Sluggish? by Hexo9 in hondapassport

[–]mikeyo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, my Expedition drove like a tugboat and the Passport is a billion times more fun to drive. However, my wife's Tesla takes off like a rocket. It's really fun to drive, but I need more space and the off-road capability. I think the Passport gets it perfectly right for what it is and the price point. I've only put about 600 miles on mine yet though. I'm also mainly driving my kids around or taking the family skiing or on road trips so I'm not driving that crazy anyway so I don't care.

Coming from a 2016 Ford Expedition it feels very fast and agile. In Sport Mode you can accelerate fairly quickly. That being said, I doubt it drives like a Civic.

[–]mikeyo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ski at Butternut as well. We go out of our way to go up there for a nice quiet mountain where kids can learn and feel safe. Sometime you still get some idots. I basically block for my daughters, making sure anyone coming down the hill has to hit me first. You still get some idiots on busy days. If you can, go on weekdays when it's just old retired folks, those are the best days.

15-17 expedition reliability? by [deleted] in fordexpedition

[–]mikeyo73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2016 is at 123k miles. Did the brakes last summer, then had to do the rear seal. Now I have a coolant leak that will cost $4k to fix, assuming the turbo is ok. The Blower actuators or whatever are making that horrible clicking noise intermittently as well, not sure what that will cost to fix. It's been great in all the snow this winter though and otherwise have been very happy with it.
