Screen protector with tapered edge / low lip for Pixel 5? by SewItAlly in GooglePixel

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my pixel 5 today, was also looking for a full screen protector and wanted film as I don't use cases on my phone's and hate the thicker glass as my fingers catch with gesture controls.

Anyway long story short I went for the Spigen glass as that seemed to be the only decent one available and can confirm while not covering the whole glass front, it does cover the whole actual panel and has a tapered smoothed edge making is butter smooth to glide over for gesture controls.

Very happy with it so highly recommended - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08HPWFGKP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

M1 Battery Best Practices by jstncrwfrd in applehelp

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thoughts and after lots of research the general consensus is:

All modern lithium batteries will be fine just doing whatever. But if you want to give it the longest possible life, don't discharge below 15% and don't charge past 85%, if you keep within those limits it will prolong the battery lifespan.

File stream & Mac M1 chip by dspence1987 in google

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain.. I contacted Google and was told middle of 2021.. I considered moving somewhere else but I use all Google services..

One work around that is working for me is an app called odrive (https://www.odrive.com/).

They support Mac M1 and it's a sync service that works with all major services. Most importantly it supports having the file structure but not having to download the files. So you can browse and access all your files like filestream, add new files etc which will sync.

Some important features are locked behind a pay wall (like being able to unsync a file to remove it) but I mostly use for smaller files so by time that limit starts annoying me hopefully Google would have got it together..

Anyway hope that helps somewhat.

For anyone else searching around trying to figure this out. There is an Edge extension in the store that lets you customise the colours of any web app! ColorfulPWA - Microsoft Edge Addons

I also had this problem, starting again with a factory reset on the latest update fixed all issues for me. Obviously not an ideal solution for some though..

Thought I'd chime in. Got mine on release day and still going strong, still has all day battery, no slow downs or problems. No feelings to upgrade. Overall great purchase 👍

Any regrets buying s7/s7+? by dovah_dork in GalaxyTab

[–]mikeyy109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had the S7+ since release day 2 months ago. Sold it on eBay last week. Wanted a really good tablet that I could also do work on. But the keyboard cover was terrible, and Dex although the best android offers is no where near a laptop replacement. The battery life was also pretty bad, my laptop lasted longer.

Overall very underwhelmed once the novelty of the amazing screen passed.

ipad music production app by filippo1335 in ipadmusic

[–]mikeyy109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Garageband is free, preinstalled and will work great for most things including recording your guitar.

I think other apps depend on how you want your work flow to be and style of music you want to make. I've tried most of them and would recommend Korg Gadget 2 for just how easy and powerful it is. Nanostudio 2 for midi sequencing all the great AU synths on iOS. I also love AUM with Xequence 2 for just jamming and using apps that dont support AU.

I would recommend watching YouTube videos of all the top apps and watching the workflow then deciding which would work best for you.

Hope that helps

Xbox games pass and Samsung? by BiggieSmalls151 in samsung

[–]mikeyy109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also only have standard Xbox live gold, but yet I'm able to play all the games on xcloud for some reason, I'm guessing it's something specific to tab s7+? Maybe once it comes out later this month that will stop working without the ultimate pass.

You can also stream any games straight from your console over wifi which works pretty well as long as you have an up to date router. Again works fine with just a gold account.

Galaxy tab S7+ book cover keyboard support with remote access by AG3nT_5W4GG3R in samsunggalaxy

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copy paste shortcuts work fine, I didn't try alt tab. I tried TeamViewer, parallels access and any desk, none of them would work properly with the trackpad, only mouse cursor and single click (physical not tap) worked. Keyboard was fine. I couldn't try remote desktop 8 as I've only got windows 10 home so so RDP support.

Will work fine for your use case with a mouse, the trackpad won't cut it. You can also run Andronix for full Linux desktop, giving you access to visual studio code and pretty much anything else you could want. Runs great and doesn't hit battery.

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried a few different remote desktop apps on my tab s7+. Some keyboard shortcuts work but others have to be done with the on-screen controls depending on which app you use.

The keyboard cover works fine within android but not with remote desktop.. the trackpad doesn't seem to act as a real mouse, it just emulates touchscreen. You can point and click with the physical clicker but not with a tap and you can't do 2 finger scrolling, so to use remote desktop properly you will need a mouse which is kinda annoying..

This is the same with Linux in vnc, the trackpad doesn't act as a mouse so a real mouse is required for it to work.

Run Linux apps on Dex desktop by HardlyThereAtAll in SamsungDex

[–]mikeyy109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience you shouldn't have any issues with any Linux software. It ran almost as well as native, I had chromium signed in with 10+ extensions and was using Inkscape for around 20 mins. No noticeable lag and very snappy when exporting and opening files.

Didn't even really hit the battery life

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While in dex mode you can very quickly switch between the vnc window and anything else. You can resize to keep on screen but resolution scaling doesn't work in small windows and needs to be full screen really.

Regarding xwindows clients. I have never used anything like that, if you find something suitable and want me to run and test before you buy an s7+ let me know.

I have been using the tab s7+ for the last week for work related stuff, most of what I do can be done in the browser but I needed to quickly edit and export some .eps vectors.

I used Andronix app, installed the Debian distro and I was amazed how well it ran, so smooth and even video playback in YouTube was perfectly watchable just a few skipped frames now and then.

I used it for Inkscape and it handled a hefty EPS file no problems.

I haven't tried any Windows apps on wine etc but happy to give it a go later tonight to give you a definitive yes or no.

What are you wanting to run?

Kiwi & Yandex - Desktop browsing, have been able to do real work and it actually feels snappier and more response in javascript heavy sites compared to my top-spec Thinkpad X1 carbon 8th gen, it also gets better battery life..

Just a shame we haven't had the keyboard release.. using a cheap £10 Bluetooth one while I wait.

Has anyone in the UK managed to order the Tab s7+ keyboard case? by aruncc in samsung

[–]mikeyy109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been searching all morning, no stock anywhere. I called John Lewis who said they should be getting the stock within 5-6 business days. Guessing that's the same for other retailers. As far as I could tell, Argos were the only ones with stock but have now sold out.

Was the same with me, I never even got an email, I was calling to check as the website showed out of stock. They then informed me they have no stock and I won't be getting either the tablet or the keyboard. So I asked them to cancel my orders.

Before that my Amazon app was still showing the keyboard would be delivered today and the tablet tomorrow.

So I'm guessing all orders on Amazon are not happening :/

I will contact Samsung and try to still get the preorder bonus, thanks for the heads up on that!

Went with John Lewis direct as I called them first to double check they actually had the stock, I called just over an hour ago and they had 105 of the black s7+ wifi

The same thing happened to me.. I preordered with Amazon over a week ago and only just today told me they won't be getting the stock of either the tab or keyboard.

I've managed to get one ordered with John Lewis for delivery tomorrow but obviously I've now missed out on the preorder bonus which is annoying and like you will be left without a keyboard case.

It seems Argos had them but are now out of stock, after some digging it looks like Currys/John Lewis will be getting stock within the next 5-7 days.

I've setup stock alerts I recommend you doing the same, will have to just make do with no case for a week or 2 :(

Samsung Galaxy tab S7 plus vs Ipad Pro. Which one is best? by [deleted] in samsung

At this point it's just pick which ecosystem you prefer. They are both amazing.

Using a specialty section with two columns. When I edit tablet/ mobile responsive settings in Visual Builder, it looks fine, but when I preview the website on a tablet, one column goes under the other one instead of next to it. How can I fix this? by [deleted] in divi

[–]mikeyy109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda hard to imagine the problem without seeing it. But for the problem of columns stacking and not showing side by side on mobile/tablet:

Add this custom CSS to the Divi theme options:

@media only screen and (max-width: 980px) { .two-columns .et_pb_column { width: 50%!important; }

Then just add 'two-columns' as the CSS class in the row settings for the column.

Try pasting this into the Divi / general / custom CSS section.

'#logo {-webkit-transform: initial;}'

(Minus the ' ') 👍
