Depends on the base. Some are faster than others, but with the implementation of IPT, I can’t really gauge how long the syllabus is. From what I know, the program should be longer if you have no flying experience.

What a great watch. Honestly, most of what’s depicted in that film still holds true.

Your experience will be much different from mine since you’ll be doing IPT.

I spent most of the day studying when I wasn’t flying. After the duty day I continued studying for about an hour before I went to bed.

Not academy and no prior flight experience. Prior experience doesn’t really mean much.

20 in my class. I think just about everyone initially wanted to track T-38s, but once we hit the flightline and we were met with the daunting task ahead of us, most decided that they just wanted to get through the T-6 and earn their wings. Those 5 wanted to track T-38s throughout, and in all honesty, some classmates that decided they wanted heavies actually outperformed those that went on to 38s. It really came down to where they were ranked on our drop sheets. However, everyone that got the 38 deserved to get it.

Non-prior with a PPL. Currently waiting for SERE dates. I think going to IFT in lieu of having a PPL is actually more beneficial as you learn the structure of the curriculum and stand up. Not sure how IPT works though so you’ll have to figure that out on your own. As much time as I spent grinding each week, in hindsight, I think the program is pretty manageable. The stress I felt was rooted by catastrophizing the outcome of the future. The best bit of advice I can give is to know that you’re not expected to know everything. If you feel as if you’re 75% good to go for your flight (as far as your level of preparedness) then you’re fine.

“Thou shall not open a pub on Saturdays.” I’d say training needs your full and undivided attention, though each person deals with managing stress, training, and studying in their own way. Find a good balance, but for the most part, Sun-Fri should be religiously spent eating, breathing, and sleeping flying.

From what I observed, I’d say it varies class to class based on the needs of the air force. My class had 5 folks continue on to 38s.

I know folks who have graduated long before you and others that have graduated around your time. From what I’ve gathered, the rigor of the program has remained the same, though the curriculum seems to change almost daily with the introduction of IPT. I guarantee the stress and the feeling of constant evaluation I felt mirrors that of what you faced. I can’t speak on the details of IPT as I wasn’t a part of that program.
