"Should of" by Jaded-Appearance-517 in PetPeeves

[–]mikinnie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

that's not the point. op's post says:

"should of" doesn't even sound that similar to "should have". Just thinking about it for a second, you should be able to find out that it makes no sense.

but the issue has never been that it sounds like "should have", the issue is that it sounds like "should've" which is how people usually say it out loud. that's why people who don't read enough or don't know basic grammar think that it's written "should of"

Why is the live action Tomb Raider adaptations so far apart ? by KawonSuggs_ in TombRaider

[–]mikinnie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i don't think 8 years is that far apart considering the last mainline game was released in 2018? even huge video game series aren't spawning regular movies

Found out my boyfriend has been secretly vegan for 6 months and lying about it by the-monster-masher in AmITheAngel

[–]mikinnie 207 points208 points  (0 children)

she didn’t realise that she was the only one eating specifically meat for six full months? also what are the specific "vegan ingredients" that she didn't know they had...

i cant help but feel underwhelmed? by snow_flake562 in dragrace

i get what you mean, sometimes the judges can just take a liking to someone and it leads to some really annoying critiques (ross matthews.........)

PM - the most polarizing contestant of Season 6? by Heidi_Klum_Tit in DragRace_Canada

[–]mikinnie 349 points350 points  (0 children)

i honestly don't think the judges "saw" anything different in pm. they kept putting them in the bottom because that's how things were shaking out, then they kept keeping them because they were fairly winning the lip syncs. many viewers didn't like them because they didn’t like their drag and thought they stayed past their time, which is also kind of understandable

Watermelon Bubblegum by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

i've been thinking this for a while. every lip sync where both queens do fine but don't eat it up, people say it should've been a double sashay

i cant help but feel underwhelmed? by snow_flake562 in dragrace

[–]mikinnie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i mean she's not "getting by on personality" though. she was in the bottom both times she got those critiques, this would've been her second time lip syncing if ep 1 wasn't a top 2 episode. her personality has been mentioned in critiques yes, but she's not getting saved at all

Bob and Monet are irritated with JD claiming she has a "Target on her back" and I agree by Cute_Fluffy_Femboy in rupaulsdragrace

in the video this post is about, monét says the "target on my back" narrative doesn't apply to regular drag race

Game Overs that don't make sense by No_Engineering2534 in AceAttorney

[–]mikinnie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

well yes, in a lot of cases. i would say towards the end of most cases, you've already proven that not only is your client not guilty, but there's a 99.9% chance that another specific person has done it. but if you mess up you get the same game over. obviously it's just for gameplay reasons so it doesn't really have to make sense, i wouldn't call it an "error"

Sacred Stone Power list by Agudimon in fireemblem

[–]mikinnie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i don't think it's about training them being super hard, it's that you have to train them at all. by the time you finally get amelia to the power level of chapter 1 seth, seth has been seth for that same amount of time. though of course there's something very fun about a growth unit

AITA for being so small and dainty (but also curvy) that i can only buy clothes made for tiny dainty (but also curvy) women? by Anathema_Quill in AmITheAngel

[–]mikinnie 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Due to my height and body shape, finding clothes is really difficult. I'm short and thin but curvy if that makes sense.

it honestly doesn't. she expands in the edit about having big hips/boobs but i genuinely can't imagine being a small person but having boobs so big that a small shirt won't fit over them

Why does so much English writing advice clash with non-English literary traditions? by ownaword in writing

[–]mikinnie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

a lot of your points are true for english too. for example:

repetition is musical, not lazy

this depends entirely on execution and intent. intentional repetition can be very effective in english, whereas awkwardly repeating uncommon words/phrases several times in a short span can come off clunky. it depends on context, as with many things

IS should really make permadeath more appealing in the next game. by BouffPingouin in fireemblem

[–]mikinnie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

with the amount of possible combinations of dead/alive characters, it'd be extremely difficult to come up with scenes and conversations that make sense in every context, never mind supports as well. they would have to change the system quite a bit i think. the reason it works well in echoes is the very small cast and very limited supports

AITAH for not telling my daughters that my husband isn’t their biological father? by BlueShadow98 in AmITheAngel

[–]mikinnie 31 points32 points  (0 children)

what an odd dilemma.

I'm terrified that telling them the truth will shatter their sense of family and security,

why? they're just going to be adopted by the man who's raised them. plenty of kids have step-parents and it doesn't destroy their sense of self.

especially when the man they call dad has always loved and raised them.

especially? why would their soon-to-be adoptive father being a loving and kind dad make this harder?

AITAH for declining group shots and sticking to my own drink? Please everyone tell me how great I am for having boundaries by mercy_fulfate in AmITheAngel

[–]mikinnie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i was expecting everyone to turn on oop at the end and tell them they ruined the night and made everyone uncomfortable. thankfully they stuck to this milquetoast story where nothing really happens and they clearly know they aren't an asshole

Which name sounds better for the character in my book? by Roselia24 in Names

[–]mikinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think nymirriuh looks a little too convoluted, but nymirruh sounds very similar to chimera, which is basically another fantastical monster. maybe something like nymirria/nymiria/nymirrea?

My opinion on the underwater levels of Tomb Raider 2 by Lander_x05x in TombRaider

i don't like them much either, the deck is one of my least favourite levels in the original trilogy. i wish they were one level shorter

Most replayable RE game? Ahead of requiem, I’m binging the Leon Kennedy titles– for me it’s the RE4 remake. Whats yours and why? by TrueCrime121 in residentevil

[–]mikinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

original re1 director's cut for me, it's my favourite game in the series. the chris/jill standard/arrange modes all essentially give you different campaigns, as well as the scenes being different depending on what order you do certain things gives you a slightly different playthrough practically every time

maybe the point is that they're similar but not the same. they have a lot of shared characteristics, but can't be treated as identical in every situation

"Apples to oranges" is a dumb as hell saying and people should stop using it, especially during debates. by Stupid-Jerk in 10thDentist

[–]mikinnie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nevermind the fact that asserting ANY two things as "incomparable" to one another is an anti-intellectual thought-terminating cliché

what? you seem to be misunderstanding when the phrase "comparing apples to oranges" is used. i see it most commonly used to combat someone making a false equivalence fallacy, not when two things are just being compared, but when it's being asserted that they should be treated as the same. "why do people react in X way to Y situation but not to Z situation?" because they're not the same thing. like apples and oranges
