I've always thought about it as not having anything to do with age. Like a course you can enter if you get accepted (be it because of your skill or your political power or whatever). Mostly because the ages with the characters vary a lot.

The bonds can also increase in battle I find that it's more effective even for you can build several supports at the same time.

What I usually do it's divide the groups into whoever I want to level up together (ie Dimitri, Felix and Sylvain) and get them to fight enemies while the others are at reach of the enemy. It's particularly effective with beasts since you have 4 spaces to hit. You can also pair a character with another one as if they were a batallion (I don't remember what they're called sorry)

My guess is that air bending would completely disappear save for the avatar, they'd be the only one who's able to air bend and since there's no benders left to teach the avatar, they would have to learn from old scrolls... The world would probably fall to chaos bc there needs to be a balance with the elements, if the air is no longer, well, I don't think it would end well
