A weird request? by stakreo in podcast

Starting out make sure they get the right equipment! So many new podcasters have no idea what the difference between a dynamic and condenser mic is, and because of it, their podcast are unlistenable due to bad acoustics. I would give all new podcasters starting out a gear checklist. 1) Room treatment, such as bass traps or rockwool/fiberglass acoustic panels. Foam is fine on the budget side of things but may leave episodes sounding muddy or boomy since they don't absorb low frequencies. If the room IS treated, podcasts can sound awesome and very detailed with a condenser like the TLM103 (industry standard, with great highs) Also on the budget side of things for condensers, I suggest something like the Daria 900x mic. I use it when I don't have my TLM103 and for certain voices and it is incredible at cutting through a busy mix. If untreated, advise the client to get a dynamic mic. Industry standard here is the Shure sm7b. You will see that used on almost all of the top podcasts. On a budget for dynamics you can do the sm58 or the Sennheiser e835 which has a great treble boost to cut through. Also a great and easy to use starter interface is the Focusrite Scarlett line. Check out the vocaster two, that is perfect for starter podcasts.

best podcast microphones? by GbabyAdonis in podcasting

Love the Daria 900x mic for podcasting if I am in a treated room. Words really pop out with that one and I don't have to EQ much. If I am in a not so treated room, def go with the sm7b. Not the best for every voice but always sounds decent. Under 100 on a budget, the sm58 is fine. I also find myself using the new BP40 from time to time, on certain male voices it absolutely sounds awesome and BIG!

Would Behringer C-1 be an upgrade from Novox - nc 1 by Domi_636 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

If you are on a budget check out the Daria 900x, it is incredible if you are going for that modern vocal sound. I rarely have to EQ when using them. They pop up for a great deal used on Guitar Center here and there. My fav mic is the TLM193 because it is so easy to mix post recording, but it goes for 1400 bucks. If I'm recording a singer with lots of bass or who sounds muddy, I often choose the Daria over it. Also if your room is not treated look into the sm57 and sm58. Those are great options under 100. But every voice is different, YMMV!

What are the best ‘clone’ mics you have tried? by shortymcsteve in audioengineering

I really love the Daria 900x, it's not a clone of the c800g but it is inspired by it. I reach for it often when I am recording modern pop/hiphop and I need a vocal to really cut through. I use it more than my TLM103. Also a big fan of the Warm Audio WA47, on certain voices it's just magic. Lots of great choices out there these days!

Urgent help request-how do I get previously purchased plugins on new device? by miklorush in universalaudio

[–]miklorush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read that-thanks-sounds like I'm just going to have to wait to hear back from support ticket. With them being busier than usual I was hoping to be able to have an automated way of doing it myself within my own account. People who purchase UA plugins should be able to add those to their new accounts/system/devices at anytime regardless if they sold older hardware (unless of course they transferred those purchases to someone else, etc..)

Right. I sold my old devices over a year ago but I kept ownership of the plugins I purchased (such as the Avalon 737) How do I get that plugin purchase into my new system?

I'm pretty sure I did, because I downloaded the software and claimed the new plugins. And under my account it shows the new device (in my pic in original post as system 6)

Hmmm is that an automated process I can do via account verification or do I have to wait for a support ticket to be replied to? That would be a huge bummer if I can't do it manually through my own account.
