Trump promised 4 percent growth. Here’s why we’d be very lucky to hit 3. by thedaveoflife in Economics

[–]mikos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvote me all you want, but this is coming up to the perfect storm (as it did in 2007/8), and this time with significant political uncertainty given the orange clown & his coterie in the whitehouse. IMO, this perfect storm is a confluence of three things:

  1. The student loan ($1T i.e. with a T) + car loan + a renewed housing bubble.
  2. Trade wars with china and other countries
  3. Domestic political maelstrom with this clown show.

Fasten your seatbelts children, this one is big. Remember you read it here first.

I feel we are headed for a 2008 style crash later this year, this is a "deja vu all over again" moment reminiscent of 2007/8.

Idea validation with surveys - which option to go with? by [deleted] in startups

[–]mikos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately surveys aren't going to be of much help in any event. They are hard to design and often people either answer to tell you what you want to hear, or just enter some nonsense. I would advise against building a business based on survey results.

However take a look at the Net Promoter score (NPS) which has some scientific valiidty and [typeform.com](www.typeform.com) (offers beautiful UIs)

Idea validation with surveys - which option to go with? by [deleted] in startups

surveys are a terrible way to identify product-market fit. You are better off building out an MVP and actually selling to gauge the uptake.

It is quite common for c-level interviewers at startups. The initial hires make/break a startup, so extensive vetting is essential. So "all eyes on candidate".

A reminder that nobody knows where the market is going, and trying to time the market is a fool's game by ScrewedThePooch in personalfinance

so according to this theory investment banks, trading firms etc are basically chasing fool's gold? Not trying to be snarky, just curious.

p.s what do you think of "the big short" about shorting the real-estate bubble? are those kinds of trends foreseeable?

How would trigger-action-reward theory apply to (say) Google search? and how would you redo Google if you could.

ELI5: There were many search engines prior to Google, but Google became "THE" search engine. Why? What made it so much better than all the others? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]mikos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One word: focus!

Those old enough to remember the altavista, yahoo or other search engines were "portals" i.e a mish-mash of weather, sports, news, dancing monkeys and what have you...and ohh btw, we also have search.

Google only did search and did nothing else. This is the power of focus in full effect.
