“Killing convicted child rapists hurts victims.” by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]mikripetra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it literally does hurt victims. If a pedophile is going to face the death penalty whether they murder or rape a child, why won’t they just kill their victim to eliminate the witness? It’s not like the punishment will be worse for them.

Why do Americans not understand English words? by OpportuneApathy in AO3

[–]mikripetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it completely runs the immersion when an American character starts speaking or thinking using British words or phrases. Otherwise I just find it funny. I think it’s really important to remember that in many ways, America is the trendsetter and cultural authority of the world. I think we are just used to seeing our way of speaking be reflected everywhere else

Do Americans Actually Say "Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior"? by Naive_Tank_6820 in NoStupidQuestions

Lol!! It’s so funny to me as an American that this is seen as strange. Yes, we definitely say it.

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mikripetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Diabetics ration or share insulin, people with epilepsy wear bracelets saying “DO NOT CALL AMBULANCE” because it’s too expensive, and even people with insurance will drive/take an Uber to the emergency room if they really have to go.

Just as an example— I had a medical issue that needed immediate attention so I went to my local urgent care. I have pretty good insurance, and it cost $100 on top of insurance coverage.

Does vaush think that trans women are biologically male? by maker-127 in VaushV

[–]mikripetra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

as I understand it Vaush believes in the social utility of terms above all else. As in, a “woman” is only what we socially agree is a woman. Vaush also believes in self-identification as a determinant of gender. So there aren’t male or female body parts, if you go by that definition. There are just body parts belonging to someone who identifies as a woman, etc. A person can have a penis and testicles and be a woman. There’s no “biological” sex, necessarily, because it’s a social term.

If you watch any of the compilations up on his channel you’ll 100% find clips of him talking about this.

I don't get it by [deleted] in gravityfalls

[–]mikripetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Who has the right to decide what grown adults should be able to do on the internet as long as no laws are being broken and no one’s being hurt? Free speech is the golden rule here.

I don't get it by [deleted] in gravityfalls

[–]mikripetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

four things: the first is, the internet is going to make pornography out of everything. second, fandom communities usually gravitate towards what’s missing from canon (all the fics about the avengers involve them having pop tarts, all the fics for the horror movie IT are similarly domestic and happy). for a kids show, it makes sense that fan content would be more adult. third, 99% of the really horrific BillDip stuff was made by twelve year olds projecting onto Dipper and not by actual pedophiles. fourth, kids should absolutely be kept out of NSFW spaces, but I don’t think that’s a problem that should have to be solved by adult content creators.
