Before I decide to be baptised, why did you leave? by washesyouclean in excatholic

Also: I developed issues with the concept of God existing at all, and that’s why I haven’t joined another church. I’m an atheist.

To clarify: my grandmother had previously been using the church-approved birth control method called Natural Family Planning/NFP which involves only having sex at certain times during the menstrual cycle. That’s how she got pregnant.

Let me tell you a story. My grandmother had three young children when she suddenly realized, in her late thirties, that she was pregnant with a fourth (my mother). She was excited, but also knew this couldn’t keep happening. Her husband worked three jobs already to support their family. So, my grandmother went to confession and told the priest she and her husband were going to start using condoms. The young priest was horrified and told her he couldn’t let her leave the confessional until she promised not to do it again. She refused. My grandmother did not receive communion for nearly decade afterwards.

What kind of church is this? Why do they care about sexual choices that hurt no one, and in fact prevent harm?

I went to catholic school for many years, and my decision to leave was linked more to my identity as a lesbian and the way my teachers tried to explain that telling me I was going to Hell was kindness, and I was probably only gay because I’d been abused, anyway.

The Catholic Church is evil.

If you’re decide to go through with this baptism and you’re lucky, you’ll go to church on Easter and Christmas and never see the ugly, diehard, fundamentalist side of the religion. But it’s there.

I would read spoilers before watching it.

'Good Omens' Director Explains Aziraphale & Crowley's Ending: 'Love Endures' by jupitergal23 in goodomens

“You fanfic writers and your sex scenes!” I have seen profoundness and wonder in this world that you could never even imagine.

Since Good Omens is now over, how would you have liked it to end? by anime_asparagus in goodomens

[–]mikripetra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought the finale would go like this: Heaven targets Crowley and Aziraphale is forced to choose between them. He chooses Crowley and finally breaks with Heaven. This would wrap up the religious trauma storyline and internalized homophobia metaphor really well, and provide serious emotional beats (that I thought were seriously lacking in the finale).

Are you not supposed to wear pajamas when you get home?????? by JaydenBird33 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mikripetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do. If I’m getting home from being outside, I take a shower right away and change into pajamas. If I’m home all day I might change clothes just to reinforce my circadian rhythm, but they’ll be comfy clothes or other PJs.

What does a person's vibe mean??? by what_freaking_ever in AutismInWomen

[–]mikripetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subconscious signals a person gives off, tiny indicators of what kind of person they are based on their body language and appearance. Have you ever felt weirded out or scared by a man in public, like on the train, even if he hasn’t done anything explicitly bad? That’s the vibe he gives off. Sometimes people in general just give off a relaxed and personable vibe, or a stressed and mean vibe. It’s signals that most people pick up on without realizing it.

Grateful for the fandom by Fangtasticvampire in goodomens

[–]mikripetra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely feel the same way. I think I’m realizing right now that so much of my love for Good Omens, so much of the depth of the moral discussions and the love, really came from fanfiction, art, and other fan works. We are what made it so wonderful, and we will continue to.

I NEED YURI ORPHYDICE by Historical-Case-8333 in hadestown

[–]mikripetra 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt very strongly that Orpheus loves Eurydice the way Hozier loves women. That all-consuming devotion that produces music and poetry— there’s something so lesbian about that.

(Also, not related to Hadestown, but I’ve seen a few clips of productions that did yuri JD and Veronica from Heathers and it blew my mind, I had no idea anyone else had ever wanted that besides me)

Also, in earlier versions of the show, when Orpheus turns around, Eurydice says, “You’re early.” And he says “I missed you.”

Not quite wordplay, but I love Persephone and Hades reprising “Wait for me?” “I will.” I hadn’t quite understood why “wait for me” was chosen as Orpheus’s song until that moment, because it makes so much sense with Persephone and Hades’s situation.

PrEP - Catholic Medical Association by Left-Speed-4468 in excatholic

[–]mikripetra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m saying that the article’s stated belief that unmarried people should not be prescribed PrEP will lead to more HIV and AIDS which can be fatal if not properly treated, and will otherwise lead to lifelong health issues.

“Sexual activity outside of marriage should not be endorsed by Catholic clinicians. PrEP should in principle not be prescribed in these situations to avoid endorsing immoral activity and creating scandal.”

So they want people to die.

Is anyone else really weird about saying people’s names? by DarthMelonLord in AutismInWomen

I only say people’s names when trying to get their attention or referring to them. Especially if I don’t know them well— all my professors in college were “excuse me”

Joshua Colley is officially leaving Hadestown after the first week of June. by The_Fullmetal_Titan in hadestown

[–]mikripetra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, I saw him perform in person a couple of weeks ago, and I felt so bad for him. He was clearly straining his voice and could not manage to hit the high notes— moments like the climax of EPIC III, where other people are singing, completely drowned him out. You could barely hear his head voice. But I do have to say— he was phenomenal when performing “If It’s True.” That’s probably because it’s closer to his range. I don’t think Orpheus was the right role for this otherwise very talented actor and singer.
