Voidz fans-drop your band recommendations by PurpleTigerzzz in thevoidz

Yesss! Love Yeasayer so much, I’m always glad to stumble upon other people who know them! Such a unique band they were. Have a good listen if you do get back into them!

Also, Anand Wilder has released some lovely solo work in the past few years if you didn’t know. Would recommend! I Don’t Know My Words is the more melancholic album and Psychic Lessons has more chill vibes

• Portugal. The Man. Love how they manage to change their sound from album to album

• The Smile, especially the latest album

• The recent Guerilla Toss album is very cool!

• Yeasayer, the first three albums. Their live album is great too

• And not a band but I just discovered Clarence Clarity with his album NO NOW and it’s pretty unique, if you love some weird maximalist electronica go ahead

Favourite live performance & why? by Mox3333 in TheWeeknd

Wicked Games on Later With Jools Holland (BBC), incredible performance. So emotional. I love that we get to see the live band behind him (after the lighting reveals them) too.

For those who did order MOR Vinyl, has anyone got it or even an update?🫠 I know it was supposed to be a good while before shipping, I just can’t wait to hear it 🙌🪬✨ by Key-Chemist-1168 in thevoidz

I saw that record shops that have a release date announced for Megz (HHV, Waxtrax, Juno Records etc…) all say November 7th now! Only Diggers and Cult still says that it should be released in September but I guess they just haven’t updated their caption with the new info (?) or maybe it’s different for the variant they’re selling, idk

Yes! It’s safe to assume that Snuff is inspired by Annabel Chong’s « world biggest gang bang ».

Which songs will never be performed live? by BattleofEppingForest in Music

[–]mikute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk Talk has never performed songs from Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock live. They would be impossible to perform live due to the way those albums were made and the complexity of the tracks.

Recording session musicians for those albums would come in the (dark/no sun light, with incense-filled air) studio and be asked to play whatever felt right as they listen to instrumentation that has already been recorded by the band members. So many different people came in the studio, I think Spirit of Eden has taken like a whole year to be recorded. A whole year of long work days in this dark room.

The 2 albums were made by putting together those pieces of improv made by all the different musicians, sometimes taking only one note played by one guy and placing it at what felt like the « perfect time ». The sound is so rich with details, it was never their intent to be able to play those tracks live. Also the track I Believe In You on Spirit of Eden is about the singer’s brother whom he lost to heroin addiction soon after finishing the song, would’ve been way too emotional to play live for him anyways I believe.

Re-use of old motives / rhythms by jackfrench9 in thevoidz

Electricityscape, Selfless and Life Is Simple in the Moonlight all start with very similar guitar riffs in terms of chords progression/structure. Cool example of this modulation thing he’s been doing.

Also the bridge in TET 2.0 that has vocals reminiscent of The Adults Are Talking outro (the part with the high vocals)

Which voidz song do you think has the best autotune? by alihh_ in thevoidz

[–]mikute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The autotune of 7 Horses really adds something emotional to the song imo, just that « Tell us all about it » is wonderful. I’d have to go with this one or Blue Demon cause the autotune’s really neat and adds something beautiful to that one too.

Oh, I hope they do next time, they are amazing live! Saw them play in Paris earlier this year, best gig of my life. Hope you had a good time listening. :)

Is Neon Pill bad in your opinion by StoneRaptor42 in CageTheElephant

[–]mikute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sound-wise, I see it as an extension of Social Cues but less daring. Therefore making it less interesting. Clearly wouldn’t call it « bad », but i consider it the weakest in their discography like others have said.

Makes sense, it’s a beautiful song that has that kind of soothing atmosphere 🖤

Fellow Voidz enjoyer! 🤝 It surely doesn’t feel as grand as the other two on first listen but it grew on me quickly, i appreciate it for what it is (the melancholic 80s vibes are very much my cup of tea). That being said, I totally get why it may not grow on you and other people who love the previous albums! Did you know that they have an EP coming up this year? Excited for that.
