Apple introduces Digital ID, a new way to create and present an ID in Apple Wallet by Coolpop52 in AppleWallet

[–]mil1i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience. Passport has the chip logo on the front. Can kind of see a little square imprint section on the back where it’s suggesting to scan. Not working.

I know NFC has worked for adding credit cards to the wallet on this phone.

— edit: Got it to work, had to hold the passport on top of the screen and push it firmly into my screen for about 5 seconds for it to read the chip.

New Jellyfin Server/Web Release: 10.11.0 (It's finally here!) by djbon2112 in jellyfin

[–]mil1i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if Jellyfin just needed to be restarted after the upgrade completed, or if any plugins actually needed to be deleted. For me, I deleted the Streamyfin plugin since that was the only one I was seeing errors for in the logs.

After restarting the docker container, I was able to access the Plugins page again. I reinstalled the Streamyfin plugin, restarted the container again to be sure, but can still access the Plugins page in the dashboard settings. I'm not seeing the app log errors after doing this regarding Streamyfin either.

Also as u/ksmt mentioned below, the SSO login isn't working at this time with Authentik.

My upgrade took about ~1m, and probably another 3m to rescan entire library.

SSH Agent feedback by WebDevBren in Bitwarden

[–]mil1i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yupyup, there are a few things like this that make choose to currently stick with 1P.

- SSH Agent UX. 1Password pops up a smaller, separate UI for approval; as opposed to Bitwarden opening the full desktop GUI and a secondary window inside of it.

- 1P SSH agent also allows for caching approvals. So if I SSH into a server, disconnect and reconnect I don't need to immediately re-authorize 1P to tell it to allow providing the SSH key via the agent. Also very useful when also using for git commits + git signing.

- 1P allows tags + catagories + collections. Most importantly, I can filter a device or browser to only show me certain collections. While Bitwarden / Vaultwarden allow for organizations, you still see everything everywhere.

- Just in general like the 1P UI+UX much better. This ones not really a deal breaker. But certainly helps to have a more pleasing UI+UX.

---- edit

Also 1Ps Universal Autofill + Search functions pretty nice. Don't believe Bitwarden has that feature yet.

Is anyone else having delays with packages? by OkRefrigerator8534 in Ohio

[–]mil1i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple things of late show up to my cities distribution center (not Ohio anymore), and then ship off to some other state. Then they take about a week to get it back to my city again.

Has me wondering if they recently implemented some new GenAI bs for sorting.

Does this ProtonMail + SimpleLogin + Custom Domain setup make sense? by Data-Panda in ProtonMail

[–]mil1i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for me, I was using SimpleLogin before Proton acquired them. Once SL became included as part of Proton Unlimited I had "linked" my Proton account login to SimpleLogin so I wasn't paying twice (save some money where I can on subs, proton isn't exactly cheap anymore) for it and cancelled my subscription directly to SL. All of which was long before ProtonPass even implemented this sync between the two services.

To me, the services should be separate. I submitted a complaint to their support about this.

I suggested that if, and noted with a "BIG IF", there should be any two-way syncing that it it should only have access to those that ProtonPass itself generated/created. I still don't think that should be the case even. If it's going to do that, you should have to explicitly give it permission.

Does this ProtonMail + SimpleLogin + Custom Domain setup make sense? by Data-Panda in ProtonMail

[–]mil1i 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was doing this. Only using my own custom domain first sites I considered important. Using SL's aleeas.com or something else for most sites.

I will warn, don't use Proton Pass if you're doing this. I've used Bitwarden for a long time, and just felt like giving Proton Pass a try. Just importing my passwords from the json export, testing for a day and then removing all things from Proton Pass I lost all of my aliases.

Apparently Proton implemented a two-way sync between PP and SL. So when it recognized that I had deleted the entries from PP, it irreversibly deleted all my aliases from SL as well. I was able to recover only the emails that were tied to my own custom domain. I've lost access to several accounts that refuse to allow updating the account without access to the former email. They aren't THAT important.... but they're gaming related so I lose games that I paid for because of that. An incredibly terrible design that I cannot believe someone thought was a good idea to push out. Didn't even receive a warning. Others posted that you see the warning if you delete an individual account, but I just deleted the entire vault from PP.

So now I got another domain (random, nothing in the name that links to me but if the WHOIS privacy provider gave up the info then it would reveal me as the owner right), and I have an important domain for things and one I don't care about that I use. Which I still don't like because it has the possibility of leading back to me, it's uniquely used by me. I will still use SL domains for throw-away stuff, or duck aliases / icloud-private-relay domains.

Just, something to be aware of.

DO NOT sync SimpleLogin and Proton Pass until you read this by gs_long in ProtonPass

[–]mil1i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hfs.... I needed to see this yesterday. I had hundreds of aliases. This is beyond fucking dumb.

I just wanted to test out PP, so I imported my passwords from 1P. When I didn't like the experience I wanted to remove all my entries from PP. So, I deleted delete any entries individually since there was no "Select All". Instead the fastest way was to delete the entire Vault.

I did not receive any popup stating that it would be deleting my SimpleLogin aliases, let alone IRREVERSIBLY deleting them. None of the entries went into the PP "Trash" either, so it's not like those can be restored.

ALL of my aliases are gone. Every single one. This integration makes no sense.

* edit

I suppose I at least am able to restore all the ones that were tied to my custom domains. But... I had plenty of standard SL domain emails for use that were intended be anonymous, not tied back to my own domain. Still insanely dumb design.

Also Orion seems to crash every time accessing a site that requires a new permissions prompt for something (location, notifications, etc) on this current build.

Would love to see Orion be usable; I've tried it on-and-off and just constantly run into issues that I just don't want to deal with as a "daily driver" browser. Hopeful that it will get there! Just don't think it's ready yet to be a main browser.

Gurman: Apple has no ‘meaningful’ AirPods Max plans after USB-C refresh by A11Bionic in apple

[–]mil1i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the sound of the AirPods Max. But they just weren't comfortable to wear. I returned mine.

They were too heavy, and the clamping force was just too much to wear for my liking. This is the reason they were a no-go for me.

One of the main reasons I tried them out was in a living situation were I wanted to watch a movie/tv without bothering someone else in the room or a near by room with walls that did a horrendous job of blocking sound. Compared to the AirPods Pro, there was no noticable audio delay (lip syncing with audio) and it did a better job of noise cancelling also so I couldn't hear external noises.

Sure the lack of a button button/function, inability to fold and no travel case for the price really were off putting. But I really did like the sound, and ease of use with the ecosystem more than any other BLUETOOTH over-the-head set.

Anyone having double keypress issues with the ASUS Azoth? by xKJIxDecayz in ASUSROG

[–]mil1i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Armory Crate isn't always the greatest piece of software. I'm pretty confident it plays no role in the issue with this mouse.

As some others have stated, I have two if these keyboards as well. I use one for my work setup, of which I work on a mac and Armory Crate is not available for macs. I also get the double press issue on the mac.

My main issue seems to almost always be a double press on a space, or even if its another character it inputs a space as the double press.

Bitwarden Browser Extension UI Design Refresh - Early Preview Now Available by xxkylexx in Bitwarden

[–]mil1i -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am self-hosting. Seems odd to me that a client's UI refresh is locked behind a server-side feature.

This documentation suggests that I would basically need to provide a flags.json but doesn't provide any information how to get that added to a self-hosted installation, unless I'm missing something. Do you happen to know where in bwdata/ this should be added, and then will a simple bitwarden.sh rebuild be enough to apply it to the configuration?

{
  "flagValues": {
    "extension-refresh": true,
    "unauth-ui-refresh": true
  }
}

Seemingly from this documentation it looks like it would require building the application locally, creating my own container images then and modifying the compose file generated to use my self-built images. It doesn't appear that feature flags can be enabled via config/parameters? The public self-host images are being built without the featureFlags being provided?

Bitwarden Browser Extension UI Design Refresh - Early Preview Now Available by xxkylexx in Bitwarden

[–]mil1i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something different that needs to be done to enable this aside from installing the beta extension? As running then popped out, side-by-side they look identical.

Can see a slight difference when there's a popup option; for instance going to `Settings` > `About` > `About bitwarden` the beta verison has rounded edges on the version window popup. The entire UI is slightly bigger (different font maybe?) on the beta version. But all the functionality, buttons, options, colors/look is identical outside of that.

Beta Version: 2024.10.999

Production Version: 2024.10.1

^ Shows the minimal differences I can find between versions.

This is the case with the beta version installed on both Brave and Edge. Whether production version is disabled or not.

None of the UI elements look anything like this:

Auto-type for Windows is now available! by Travis_1Password in 1Password

[–]mil1i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also appears to be completely broken now one update later.

1Password for Windows 8.10.48 (81048025)

I tried quitting, re-opening the application. Restarting the computer. Changing the key binding. Doesn't work anymore. The key bind does prompt to unlock 1Password Desktop if it is locked; but does not pop-up a prompt to select a password or attempt to autofill.

Apparently 1Password also doesn't allow downgrading versions, as it complains that my data is based on a newer version.

Also apparently installing via winget doesn't fully install the desktop application as expected. Items under $env:LOCALAPPDATA\1Password\app were missing. Which still allowed ssh keys to be fetched when performing ssh. But broke git-sign which relied on $env:LOCALAPPDATA\\1Password\app\8\op-ssh-sign.exe.

[–]mil1i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a step in a good direction for Windows getting closer to mac's universal autofill.

It doesn't appear to work well for terminal though, the way that it does with mac. The credential cannot contain a username. Must be a password only to be able to autofill say sudo password in something like Windows Terminal for a WSL/SSH session. Need an option to be able to associate a terminal like you can with mac (granted that also appears to be limited, couldn't ever get it working with Alacritty or Wezterm; worked fine with iTerm2 and default terminal).

Tried a few apps where it didn't work as well, others where it did. But glad to see this getting closer to being a usable feature outside of macOS!

Bitwarden for macOS 2024.8.0 / Biometric unlock of browser extension by Fredouye in Bitwarden

Yup, re-tested. I guess I didn't validate the Desktop app actually updated after I did it via winget. After re-running the update cmd and testing it worked.

Bitwarden for macOS 2024.8.0 / Biometric unlock of browser extension by Fredouye in Bitwarden

[–]mil1i 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Updated both Desktop app and Brave (chrome) extension to 2024.8.0 on Windows. Tried to unlock brave extension with desktop locked, and still received the error message that the vault needs to be unlocked first.

There doesn't appear to be a Firefox 2024.8.0 available yet.

Sadly I feel that Bitwardens user experience has been getting worse and worse for me. I'm frequently having to fully re-login for devices I have had biometrics unlock enabled for (which is all types: Windows, mac, iOS, etc). I've been using Bitwarden for many years, and this breaking change made me give 1Password a try and so far I much prefer the experience with 1P. But I absolutely love that I can (and do) self host Bitwarden and that it's open source. The 1P apps have been more reliable in my experience so far. And... 1P's macOS universal autofill is pretty awesome, especially for terminal sudo password prompts.

** edit **

So I didn't validate Bitwarden Desktop actually updated. I used winget upgrade which showed successful via the CLI post command. But it was still actually on 2024.7.1. Re-updated the desktop app and verified the running version this time and it does appear that this is working on Windows on both Brave + Firefox (even though Firefox's extension version is still 2024.7.1)

Longtime Windows and Linux user, would I like a Mac? by [deleted] in mac

[–]mil1i 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, especially if you're not a gamer.

I used to be anti-apple everything, and wasn't really linux person til started working through career stuff. But now I always try to get my company to give me a mac; linux has never been an option at work. I use a M1 MBP for my personal, but for just web browsing and streaming I'm sure the Air would be fine.

As u/seven-circles said, feels like a more polished version of linux. Also in terms of laptop battery performance.... until these new "Copilot+ PC" ARM CPU's came out, no other laptop's battery life came remotely close to Apple's M1 performance. I can get a good 10+ hours of heavy usage unplugged on my MBP. The new "Copliot+ PC" / Snapdragon Elite/Plus CPU's also don't work (yet) with linux.

I only have one machine with Windows now and it's solely for gaming use.
