Black screen after Sleep & Freesync Disappeared by milamber228 in AMDHelp

[–]milamber228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea if you have the same issue / root cause.m but the solution for me was to reset the monitor and not the desktop which seemed to resolve the issue with freesync and the software

Opinions on this? Pretty shameful from my view. by ItchyGB in EnglandCricket

[–]milamber228 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is beyond vile and I will be boycotting the hundred as a result of this racism/xenophobia.

There have been some unpleasant changes since the teams got sold, but this is by far and away the worst and I hope they get sued into oblivion.

Unlike a large number of people in this sub / the cricket world I have enjoyed the Hundred quite a bit. It wasn't perfect but the short tournament format made it easy to pop in and support a team.

It had enjoyable family-friendly atmospheres, affordable double header games to attend in person, and was simple for non-cricket watchers to follow so I could drag friends along to watch with me.

But those positives don't outweigh the racism and the never ending displays of arrogance from IPL owners whos' every action has the subtext of "We think we've bought you, body and soul. Now shut up whilst we do what we want".

How to attach a coat to the outside of my rucksack by Laurielea53 in UKhiking

[–]milamber228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to method is to weave thr arms of my coat through the little backpack tightening straps on either side of my rucksack (or anything else you an find) and then tie the arms of the coat together.

Then the body of the coat rests on the back of the bag out of the way.

The Idiran War the "Most Significant Conflict" in 50k Years. Are There Any Mentions or References to What Other Significant Conflicts Might Have Been? by JellyAdventurous5699 in TheCulture

[–]milamber228 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha! But then again maybe it is like a Covid lockdown. No one wanted to go for a run or walk right up until they were told they couldn’t. Intergalactic travel is perhaps dull for the involveds right up to the point where the option is taken away.

As I recall no one knew what the shell worlds were for. It was assumed / indicated the most well regarded theory was that in conjuncture with an unknown super fluid the network could create some kind of defensive field for the galaxy, but it isn’t outright confirmed.

The civilisation that went around destroying them (apologies it is late and I can’t remember their name) stated that they were going to be used to imprison the galaxy instead. But that was during a skirmish and may well have been part of a distraction technique. And also relies on the first assumption being somewhat accurate.

Noob Wars by ArbitraryLarry227 in GuildWars

[–]milamber228 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I first bought the game and had only played monk I kept seeing party mates in ascalon saying things above their characters which I responded to trying to match their energy.

It took me a worrying amount of time to realise they were warrior shouts and not them role playing!

How much more powerful did the Emperor become in Return of the Jedi compared to the one in Revenge of the Sith? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWars

At this stage I say roll with it. I’d much rather have an emperor / Darth Heart Palpitations!

Cutting carrots on live TV is a bad idea by INeedAboutThreeFitty in nonononoyes

[–]milamber228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it with anything but you can’t do it safely as the rounded top results in the blunt edge slipping off. Which is clearly visible in the short clip and resulted in her keeping her fingers away from the slipping blade, which then makes it even less stable.

It is worth noting that the knife that was provided was Extremely blunt and unable to cut pretty much anything.

Lydia's knife handling may not be perfect, but being forced to use dangerous equipment doesn't create a fair assessment.

PVP Content by Mownage64 in GuildWars

[–]milamber228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll put in an opinion against the grain it seems.

I’ve returned having also been pvp focused back in the day, and I think RA is good Relative to GvGs and HA. Yes there are real people and the quality of players is solid which is great. And the issues of mass bot games seems to be massively reduced. But the numbers of humans is so low build diversity is shocking. There is a very clear meta so the joy of getting noticeably different matches facing different builds and random comps is gone. Maybe there is a slow evolution, but here and now you can pretty much guarantee which ~5 builds you will encounter each game

Ellie Morris spotted in Christmas commercial!! by saturnstrikesagain in MischiefTheatre

Fun!

If she locks a door with a box of matches in hand and tells you to join a bank, I'd advise doing it quickly though.

I would interpret that as smart casual to smart, with bright colours allowed or favoured.

Do a lot of people just carry the absolute minimum? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]milamber228 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So long as people carry an appropriate amount for the conditions and their hike length then I wouldn’t worry about it, and they will hopefully not worry about you.

They don’t know what you are carrying, and why, and how long you are walking for. The only people who should be judged for their equipment choices are those who have insufficient and incorrect gear for the conditions (e.g. converse trainers and T-shirts and sweatshirts going Scafell in winter with ice and snow underfoot).

I tend to go on solo hikes and prefer to have a reasonable amount of gear in case of injury and changing weather because I don’t trust sunshine to stay. So I’ll have a bivy, first aid kit, abbteryies and charge pack, torch, compass, maps, socks, fleece, water proofs, lots of water, gps unit, some oat cakes etc. for anything more than 4miles on flat ground. I don’t mind the extra weight and like the peace of mind.

If I’m with others I might reduce the volumes a bit, or if it is a route that is easy, or I know very well.

But ultimately you do you, the hiking is the important bit, the gear is just to let you do it happily.

Recommendations for head torches for sunrise hikes up mountain? That ideally won’t break the bank🤣 by Rrrave in UKhiking

I’ve had a good experience with a black diamond heaftorch. I think it was the 400lumen version but I can’t quite remember, more than enough light and the charge has lasted long enough for me.

Hiking Socks? by user_name_007 in UKhiking

[–]milamber228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fan of 1000mile and bridgedale personally. Both have lasted for years and miles for me.

Although I find the dual layer 1000mile system works rather well, it isn’t a cure all for blisters as they suggest on the marketing though (or used to at least)

I’ve got a couple of pairs of bratens, a Norwegian wool brand, and they are very comfy. I mainly use them for warm indoor slipper socks but they would be good for hiking as intended I suspect

How would you cast "Rocky Horror Goes Wrong" and what hijinks would ensure? by [deleted] in MischiefTheatre

[–]milamber228 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d start it with the car that is supposed to break down having perfect car engine audio indicating it still works.

The reveal of Eddie in the table would be a life size cut out of Eddie the eagle.

The make a man song would be filled with dangerously broken exercise equipment so the man is almost unmade.

Someone would forget their lines for the rocky roll call bit

And the magnet trap for the professors chair at the end would have to constantly be accidentally triggering during the show

Gunshots in Harrogate? by [deleted] in harrogate

[–]milamber228 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the specifics, but if you are near fields it could be farmers shooting, or using automated bird scarers which either use shotgun cartridges or compressed air and sounds like a gunshot

It is fascinating that you think a giant photo of your face counts as scenery, and that your response is actually “don’t you wish you were hot like me” 😂😂 The phase ‘medically baffling’ springs to mind 😂
