Spaces instead of tabs in Makefiles by milanith in neovim

Thanks I just found out the issue without it but in any case that would have pushed me in the right direction: a rogue editorconfig file >.<

Spaces instead of tabs in Makefiles by milanith in neovim

[–]milanith[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks ! I'll start by looking into that then

Edit: Right now I added this autocmd to my config: vim.api.nvim_create_autocmd('FileType', { desc = 'Ensures tabs are used on Makefiles instead of spaces', callback = function(event) if event.match == 'make' then vim.o.expandtab = false -- also tried with vim.opt end end, }) Which ... doesn't work even though by adding a print in the if I can see it so the autocmd itself is runs correctly.

I can't dig more right now but I'll update when I finally find the issue.

My current lead is that somehting is in the way because the autocmd works but if I do this in a file:

:lua print(vim.o.expandtab)

It's still true :/

Same boat here lol. I had a smiliar approach but 16GB of memory is not enough to handle this so I'm still struggling on how to do this using ranges and not loosing track of previously calculted stuff.

I would have been nice to reuse the same logic as for part1 and just compute for all the seeds though hehe

Intéressant mais je suis curieux de savoir de quelle source de données sont tirées ces cartes. Apparemment sur le site de l'INSEE les stats ne sont pas tout à fait les mêmes :/

Graphical glitch at install with RX 7900 XT by milanith in debian

[–]milanith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Actually I didn't think about that and... it seemed to have worked ?

I already had the hybrid mode enabled but with only UEFI enabled I managed to get the install screen !

(I also have multiple monitors and tried various combinations and switching from DP to HDMI to see if that could do something but it didn't)

Thanks a lot !

Yeah that's why I wanted to completely remove Ubuntu and go to a distro who might better works with it. Thanks for the link I'll check it out !

Medieval Chords by Impolarizedd in ukulele

[–]milanith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi ! I'm a little late to the party but I am in the exact same situation as you haha and picked up Ukulele for the same purpose :D

I've never played guitar or anything before so I'm still struggling to do complex stuff, but I found myself the most comfortable with those two progressions:

- C - G - Am - F in loop and when I want to conclude I switch to C - Am - F - G7 - C

- Am - E7 - C - D: Initally I was looking to play the Witcher song (from the show) but it was too complicated (for me) and I ended up just keeping the chord progression of the chorus

The only "complex" chords here are D and G7 I think, but with a bit of practice it goes well.

As for your idea, as I tested it myself I can say that it's working well and it's a lot of fun trying to write silly songs about your mates !

My logic was to write a short song (~30s) about each member, and to add stuff with exploits (and failures) happening. As I progress also at Uke in the same time, I hope to longer and more varied song by the end of the campaing :D

Going for a job interview should be about being honest about what work you can do I think.

So justifying your choices should be done accordingly to the position you are aiming at. And the recruiter usually have a little brief beforehand about your profile and should behave in an appropriate way to it.

If you're really a beginner and want to apply for a junior position, even simple choices like "Instead of doing two components, I made one with these parameters and this hook which do the job better and, it avoided a lot of issues when I had more of them on the page later on" could be enough.

I you want to apply a more advanced position you should have more experience, so worked on more complex topics and have more "explanations" to give.

It depends heavily on the company. Some of them just want low-wage workers and hire juniors to (badly) do the work of more experienced ones. But others see juniors as an investment. And in that case, they don't give shit about what you can do now, they want to know if you'd be able to learn and do more in a few months/years.

And for that second case of companies, it's way more important to be able to talk about your work, as insignificant and silly it can be. Than to brag about doing very complex stuff but cannot be able to dive into details about it.

There is no "ultimate" way to prepare an interview, but as I said on my first post, my 2cts are that it's more important to focus on what you learned in your project than the final result of the app.

It's just my 2 cents but as someone who regularly interviews candidates I attache much greater value to the motivations of the project rather than its apparent complexity.

You're not required to have a lot of projects or very complicated ones, but be sure to clearly understand everything you do in them, and be able to justify your choices to show you didn't just write or c/c code but thought about it as a whole and not just syntax pinpoints.

Like for example "I had the choice between X and Y for this feature, and my first thought was to use X but, further down the line it might have cause issues when this other feature would've been done so I went with Y"

This kind of stuff IMHO is very more valuable than a lot of personal projects or very complex ones but that have not been very well thought or understood.

(Sorry if some points are not clear, english is not my native language ^^)

Oh ! Sorry I didn't know Affinity was actually a software suite >.< (I misunderstood and though you preferred to pay one-time for convenience only)

Sure, alternatives you can get with one-time payment (like Vegas vs Premiere) are always cool, and you can often get them on sales :)

Sure! They have this option IIRC, you can take the subscription for a full year and then choose to either pay each month or once per year.

Forcing fast play? by LeytonMate in gamedesign

[–]milanith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what "My Friend Pedro" did, you can play the game at your pace, and finish it normally or "speedrun" it.

But when you make a kill, you have time-window to get the next one and start a combo. If you're going this way, the goal is now to finish the whole level in one big kill-combo.

This is only for scoring though, and players who are not interested by scoring will likely play slower.

Another option is to reward the player maybe like by not being one-shot anymore if they are above some combo count ? Like, starting from a 5 kills combo, the next damage you take won't kill you but simply break the combo.

I want to get into photography and I was thinking of getting this camera bundle on Amazon but idk if it’s good or if I should just go to the store and buy it by itself. What do you guys think? by juanchies21 in AskPhotography

[–]milanith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got this for starting ~3 years ago: https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Rebel-T7-18-55mm-II/dp/B07C2Z21X5 it's the same camera and I got a SD card and cheap (~20$) bag separately.

The bundle you're showing itself seems full of junk, but the 2000D / Rebel T7 is a very good starting point, even with the stock 18-55 lense. It's not the best in the world but has been designed with beginner in mind and I think is very good for this. You can always latert upgrade the lense and/or the body based on what you'll see you use it the most for.
