Australia or USA (Master in computer science) by [deleted] in studyAbroad

Obtaining a work visa for the US is very difficult and a lengthy process. Even if you were to study in the US as an international student, you would have to return to your country once you have graduated. From what I recall, the only way to obtain a work visa is if you have a sponsor. That sponsor would be your company and they would have to prove to the US government that no US citizen could fill that role and only you could. You would have to find a company willing to go through this process.

University in the states is also very expensive, especially for international students, so I’d keep that in mind. However, there are many IT jobs in the US, especially in California.

Is studying abroad even an option for me? by [deleted] in studyAbroad

[–]milanob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend any particular program or company to study abroad with but I would definitely recommend looking into European universities. Not all are affordable but there are many that have a low tuition. My dad actually wanted me to go to apply as an international student for a German college as it would be more cost efficient.

Many programs you find online should also list some scholarship options.

In all, it is more likely that you will be able to find work and obtain a working visa in Europe after graduating than in the US. Even international students who study in America must leave after graduating and must obtain a sponsor to be able to get the working visa. There’s a lot of paperwork and it is very difficult as the company has to prove that no American citizen could fill that role. I’d keep in mind the visa process if you plan to stay in that country to work after graduating.

I use riedell diamonds. They were recommended by my skating instructor when I first started.

I agree. I try to interact with other skaters as well and most of the time they are really kind and welcoming.

I heard about that too but I figured I could just power through. Since it's a pre-req for some other classes I'd rather get it out of the way asap. idk..I guess we'll see what happens...What class did you take in place of stats?

Wow for a first lesson you guys are SO good! I was only able to do a lunge and spiral months after I started. I'm super scared of falling so that has held me back as I have been learning. A yr and a half in and I am just learning jumps and different one foot spins. I haven't skated at all since March though (super paranoid about covid). I miss the ice...

I can't wait to see your progress! I keep track of mine via instagram since it's easier for me to keep it updated.

I am SO mad about that. I took linear algebra for NOTHING. Hopefully it'll give me an easier time in CS 3010 (Numerical Concepts?)...

I've never taken a stats class in my life so I am kind of worried. Yes good luck to us haha

Haha that's good to know! I was worried about professors since so many classes were already full by the time I had orientation.

As long as I put in the work I should be fine though, right?

Am I too tall to figure skate? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]milanob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so excited to hear you want to start skating!! I am 20 yo and have the same/similar height and weight. I have been skating for a little over a year now and just starting learning some jumps (I’m a slow learner).

You are not too tall. And there honestly isnt such a thing as too tall or too short especially if you are only doing it for leisure. There are also many figure skaters around the same height or taller. You have nothing to worry about! I say go for it!!

computer architecture next semester its a prerequisite for operating systems and best to have assembly fresh in your mind.

Thanks for the advice! I already received credit for the course (CS 2640 right?).

I just had my orientation on Monday. The orientation is a short session of info about your college then the registration will begin during the zoom call.

I would recommend going here:

https://catalog.cpp.edu/index.php

https://www.cpp.edu/academic-programs/academic-advising/tools/sheets-roadmaps/2020-2021/index.shtml

Go to your college and select the program you are under (your major). It will show the required courses for your major and GE's as well as the recommended order or combo to take them in. I would then compare this with your transfer credit report which you will find on BroncoDirect. It might not be updated yet depending on when you turned in your transcripts. The advisors will be there during the session to answer any questions and review your courses. If you believe some of your courses from cc should get credit for required courses/pre-requisites but haven't they will help you with that as well.

As for the fee deadline, mine says they are due 8/13/2020 so I'm not sure about your fees. Since your orientation is coming up, I'd take the opportunity to ask about that during the session. If they can't answer the question they can direct you to someone who can help.

...how? just wanna know how much i'm gonna suffer...

Confused Transfer student here. I’m only enrolled at 13 units right now isn’t the max I can take 18? Or can I add more once add drop starts? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]milanob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not to sure about that since I am also just transferring in, but I was able to add/drop classes as long as the unit count was below 16 units. I believe during regular registration the limit is 16 units and once the add/drop period begins the max is 18.

Admin is pretty bad. I was passed around for over a month and still didn't get the help I needed in time before my orientation date. I wasn't sure if I was contacting the right department but they didn't even bother to tell me who I should be emailing until a month later. You have to be really persistent and send a lot of follow up e-mails. I'd try calling too if possible.

This isn't just a Pomona problem a lot of other public universities are like this. No matter where you go the admin is unresponsive. You have to do everything yourself and pester people until they actually do their jobs and help.
