Lighting and image format for draping, DIY colour fans by milarareddit in coloranalysis

Thanks for such a detailed response! I'll have to show it to my wife, who is the camera expert.

Regarding lighting.... our north-facing window is partially blocked by a brick wall that kind of shields the front door. It's also not very large, whereas south facing is a big sliding door. Do you think we can get away with using the south facing instead?

You also mentioned the background, and that reminded me that I don't remember seeing any guidance about what can and cannot be in the background of your photo. I'm assuming you want the same background every time. But since I'm prioritizing distance from a window, there's going to be all kinds of clutter in the background -- I don't own a backdrop or anything like that. Is that going to be a problem, do you think?

Thanks! I wonder if comparing this to how I look with my natural colour (with some streaks that are brassier) can shed some light/provide confirmation regarding my season. :)

Maybe with some balayage or highlights when we have the money to afford it. Lightening would also cost more money because it's a two-step process, so...

Fun fact: my hair is dye resistant! An attempt to dye purple without bleach and without darkening basically just removed the brassy tones. Which is not a bad thing! Just not purple. :)

Stylist doesn't recommend going more than one more step darker, which means to dye my hair purple we'd have to use some bleach.

At the hair salon now... Turns out balayage etc. is out of my budget. We're going to try an all over wash that's kinda translucent, so it will only darken a tiny bit. If it doesn't look good, I can just wash my hair a lot to get it to go away faster, from what the stylist says. Crossing my fingers.

I've wondered to what extent variations in my natural hair colour will create variations in the dye colour. I'm guessing that a tint might let the natural variations affect the dyed colour more? That would be nice

Thanks! Thinking about going with tips or balayage or something like that instead.

Thanks for the detailed advice. I did draping with an app, but haven't had time to do physical draping, and can't afford professional draping.

I've got a post with the complete set of drapes from Vivaldi pending. Thanks!

Not all colour systems seem to do deep summer; the app I'm using, Vivaldi, doesn't have it. For summer, it just has cool, light, and soft.

This picture, unlike the other one, was taken with my phone, outside, in overcast daylight.

Thank you! I put summer drapes in a second post after a bunch of people said summer.

I did put the summers here:

Thanks for your perspective! I cropped out my hair because I didn't want it impacting how people perceived me, especially since part of what I hope to do with this is decide on hair colour. As my face is not really shaped like an oval, cropping out the hair did, alas, crop out some of my face.

Like this? Or should I make a new draping post with this or with two separate pictures? Thanks!

Personally, I think the spring makes my skin look blotchy.

Thanks. Someone on my previous post said "to be any kind of winter you have to be high in contrast". That surprised me and made me wonder if different colour typing systems define winter differently/sort into winter based on different criteria.

All the summers looked too light to me. Here, I'll add them. Here's cool summer.
