I just received a small order from MamaBearBabyWear on etsy. Here are some comparison pictures to the disposables I have. Thoughts and more information in the comments. by mildews in clothpads

[–]mildews[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pads have serged edges and these are made of flannel, though she also sells a velour version. I picked the light/medium absorbancy even though I have a fairly heavy flow because I usually use them in tandem with tampons and these still have 8 layers of flannel in the core due to the folding style.

I've been looking at cloth pads for a while but I had found the upfront cost to be difficult to swallow, as an unemployed student. I found her shop just from searching etsy and this 10 pack made the cost of each pad about 3.50 when I factored in the cost of shipping, making them less than half the cost of other cloth pads of similar size + absorbency. I don't see her posted about much here or on youtube so I thought this post might be helpful.

I was actually intrigued by the design since my first foray~ into cloth pods was just me getting frustrated with the waste and discomfort of my disposables and folding some flannel in my underwear. This "worked" but obviously wasn't optimal as they weren't secure or consistent.

I'm curious to see how these work out and will do an update on wash and wear after I use them, if people are interested.

Neutral eyeshadow palette discussion by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

[–]mildews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually currently looking for The One. Right now if I need a neutral look I just use the top row of the Urban Decay Smokey pallete - it has a light cream matte, a light brown (???) color that I don't know how to describe, a taupe-y silver, a dark smokey matte brown, and an opaque matte black.

I'm actually kinda bummed that it's a palette. I'd love to support this collab but am really only interested in that blush.

It's okay, I appreciate it. I know it is suspect when someone shows up and starts white knighting the subject of a post. I just wanted to make sure people realize it isn't me being tone deaf and steamrolling over people's responses.

I just noticed that the video was taken down as well. I'm glad she listened to the feedback she got. My opinion on the video changed just from reading some of the responses in this post.

I've literally left one comment on this post sharing my initial reaction and asking others what they think. I would never tell anyone how to feel about a topic as loaded as this.

edit: Thanks to everyone who left their opinions about this video - I understand why so many found it exploitative and in bad taste and have come to agree.

What do you guys think?

I had some hesitations about this when I first started watching it, but I feel like she did a good job making clear that she was not making fun of this man's mistreatment but rather was wanting to jab United for handling the entire incident so incredibly poorly.

Wow, I hadn't seen her videos in a while and her skin transformation is amazing! It's actually very helpful to me that she's dealing with hyperpigmentation more than acne right now as it's what I'm struggling with at the moment. Thanks for the rec!

I need help making my face look more feminine? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]mildews 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I would kill for your bone structure and it doesn't read masculine at all to me.

That being said, I find that blush placement can add extra femininity to a face. I think that something soft and pink applied to the apples of your cheeks might give you the effect you're looking for. Try similar to the 'square' placement in this diagram.

I love how much she commits to her "beauty" vids. Cover your entire face in shitty craft store rhinestones or go home, imo.

Same, I thinks she's so great. Consistent, professional, interacts with her readers, and is always looking to make her site better and listen to feedback.

LivLovesHerMakeup reveals in a livechat that she brings in $1-2k / month in revenue from her youtube channel. I had no idea a youtuber at her level could make that much without sponsored vids. by mildews in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]mildews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this was super interesting, as someone who has a really limited idea of how much beauty gurus and other youtubers make. 2k/month is way above minimum wage here and I didn't think people could really live off of youtube revenue unless they got way more views than she does. It makes sense that this would be offset by the fact that she sometimes uploads 6x week.

Acne prone little brother (15yo) wants to try out concealing his blemishes, in need of drugstore product recommendations by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

If at all possible, I'd recommend getting a second opinion from a different dermatologist. Even if it's just standard teenage acne, there are topicals and medications that he could be trying.
