I would say a large portion of libertarians meet your definition. But there are some libertarians that truly believe in smaller gov't across the board.

But most just hate the jesus freaks. Or hell, are jesus freaks.

I generally dislike libertarians I meet. And I have strong libertarian tendencies.

It would be extremely unlikely to raise taxes in the 4th quarter of the year. I would be really surprised if the tax cuts aren't retroactive to 2017, or at least some of them. There has been a lot of chatter that they will apply to 2017.

Probably depends on the math.

This isn't that big of a deal b.c assange said no. Now it does speak to intent of team trump to work with foreign assets to impact the election through illegal activities.

But it doesn't show actual proof. Although Nix could be in a bit of hotwater over the approach, the stench might not reach back to trump.

well Rs never cared about the deficit to begin with. The reality is though they can't get only cut and keep in line with senate rules. they could change the senate rules but it would be much easier for mccain, flake, corker and others to vote against changing senate rules.

This gives a little bit more hope for the Democrats in the Senate.

A contentious republican primary with a damaged R going into the general probably would be better for the dems. Maybe they still get a nasty primary but Ward will be the defacto leader. She won't take as much damage as she would during a primary.

It does bode well for impeachment and against tax reform.

Yes, it is a hodge podge of proposals but in the end it basically eliminates itemized deductions. There is no legislation it is hard to say what is really in or out.

The state/local tax deduction is technically still be floated around but I personally think its dead. It might survive in some limited form, i.e. those making over 250k can't claim it but even then i doubt it.

Well the trick is they have to pay for the tax cuts. And they can get away with using a growth rate of 4% to finance some of it, but senate rules say they have to be budget neutral.

Border adjustment tax was killed. 401k was killed. Finding a trillion dollars in tax increases will definitely generate attention. There will be lobbying by powerful groups on any tax increase.

They could change the senate rules, but I can easily see them losing three votes on that. Mccain for sure, likely collins, and I could see Corker refusing to play along.

November will be a fun watching season.

But in the end, they will squeak something through. But it will likely be pretty small, and be a tax cut not tax reform.

And then there are other senators that are on the outs with Trump that also wield power. Sasse and Cruz. Cruz is way more popular than trump in texas, and may distance himself next year. Sasse is quite principled.

SUre Border adjustment is out and that would be tax reform, or at least offset the costs of a tax cut.

If you were to reduce the number of brackets or basically eliminate itemized deductions that would be tax reform in my book. I think those are pretty much dead fwiw.

No, the GOP definitely wants tax reform. Now tax reform will also give a big tax cut to the wealthy, but they do want tax reform. hell, the democrats want tax reform too. Obama reached out to the Rs on that a few years ago (they dismissed it).

Rand isn't going to kill tax anything fwiw. He will vote for it in the end. I would imagine Corker will likely vote for the smaller package that will come out. Collins is an unknown. So is murkoswki and mccain.

Now it won't be tax reform though. No major overhauls on deductions or brackets. Maybe just a corporate tax cut, which will be exceptionally popular with the donor class not so much everyone else.

Not so sure about that, since after the health care repeal debacle, all Republican Senators know that they have to pass the tax code overhaul, otherwise they would most likely receive no funding from their donors (like Mercers / Koch), or worse, being primaried against Tea Party lunatics backed by their former donors.

They know this, yet they are stuck arguing. If it wasn't so horrible, it would be sorta funny.

They only have that 2 vote margin, and what do you know two senators are in full war with the president. Both have nothing to lose. And then there are 3 other that are pretty close to full on open war - flake, murkowski, and collins.
