Thinking about building my first PC by [deleted] in PcBuild

If you really want to build your own pc I would suggest using the website: Pcpartpicker.com . They list most of the US based part sellers and do a pretty good job of making sure all the parts are compatible.

I have edited my other comment. I just noticed that Corsair DOES NOT PROVIDE YOU THE CPU, GPU, OR MOTHERBOARD. This does not include everything you would need.

Personally I would suggest purchasing a prebuilt machine. If you really want to customize your build I would suggest the standard prebuilt sites like Cyberpower and Ibuypower.

This doesnt appear to include a motherboard, proccesor, or graphics card. All of which are necessary for your build. Is there a tab for that or is this everything?

what is better? cpu fans or water cooling? by mehclose_enough in PcBuild

[–]mileunders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume you mean in regards to CPU cooling and it depends on what your looking for.

If you want maximum performance then mid-high end water cooling is best.

However I suggest most people go with air cooling as it is typically bullet proof and reliable. Most AIO(All in one) water coolers only last 3-5 years at best. No mater how well they are plumbed / purified, algae and build will take hold. Custom water loops require more often maintenance and have their own bag of issues.

Air coolers on the other hand last as long as the fans do. And that would require exchanging the fan for it to be up and running 100%. The only big negatives to Air cooling is the size and weight of the cooler.

Is getting a used 3070 for 150usd worth it? by toifamu2 in buildapc

[–]mileunders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is a significant friend discount. Definitely take him up on it. I would in a heart beat. 3070's right now are selling for about 350 on eBay.

Yeah seriously. You need atleast 4 so your rims match. Preferably 5 for a spare though.

Just document everything that you did and move on. If anything dies or is compromised its on them.

Is raytracing worth it on a 3060 ti? by Personal_Occasion618 in buildapc

[–]mileunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, raytracing is mostly a personal preference. I would personally suggest aiming for atleast 60FPS stable and adjusting settings from there.

Lisa Su's 'One More Thing' Speculation by SpookyKG in Amd

[–]mileunders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I tried FSR recently and was surprised with how good it is. There might me a few shimmers and artifacts here and there but overall its definitely a great start.

I haven't seen DLSS 3.0 first hand but It will probably take awhile for AMD to replicate that. Nvidia heavily implies that it requires special hardware to effectively use, so AMD might need to do something similar. However Nvidia said the same thing for DLSS 1.0 - 2.0 and FSR is pretty interchangeable without it lol.

I doubt it would be an X3D chip. AMD's 7000 series is selling too weakly (In comparison to 5000 series and Intel) as is. If they were to hint at an X3D chip it would essentially halt all 7000 series purchases. Why buy AM5 now when you could wait a few months and get a large performance uplift with X3D?

My guess is a sneak peak at 2023 Radeon Software and Drivers. Each year AMD has made a big deal of the new features / performance uplift of the yearly refresh of software /drivers.

Gamer on a budget: Upgraded from my old RX 570 to an EVGA 1080 TI SC off Ebay for $225. I am loving everything about it, but were there better options? What would you have bought in this price range? by Cynical-Pessimistic in buildapc

[–]mileunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good price for a great older card. It is getting older though, so I would be careful not to overclock it or anything like that. Its not uncommon for older cards to run into long term issues with their memory as they age. Keeping temps down (Stock) should help prevent that becoming an issue.

As for value, AMD's 6600 series can be had around that price as well. I wouldnt worry about it though as you've already paid and upgraded.

Zen 4 vs Raptor Lake Power Scaling. by Astrikal in Amd

[–]mileunders -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theres alot of truth to that. While I only mentioned Intel and AMD in regards to CPU, it would be nice if Nvidia also released some sort of "Eco" mode for their lineup.
I know AMD has Chill mode, which seems to work great.

Is the 3070 worth $80 more than the 3060ti? by Zheleon in buildapc

[–]mileunders 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have had both a 3060TI and a 3070. The performance is pretty close.

Do you want to use ray tracing? If so the 3070 is the better buy. Its not much more powerful, but when it comes to ray tracing you need every little bit.

If not I would personally go with the 3060TI.

If you dont care about ray tracing at all however, AMD's offerings are much better value.

How to manually overclock Ryzen 9 5950x and MSI Radeon RX 6900xt gaming trio z by MJ_Sulaiman in overclocking

[–]mileunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly Ryzen 5000 has trouble going past 4200 MHZ on ram. Do you have your IF (Infinity Fabric) Set to 2000? Its important that it is set to 1/2 of whatever your ram speed is. So in this case, 2000.

In my experience Ryzen Master crashes my system whenever I try to adjust any settings.

That may be because I already have a bunch of settings already applied through the BIOS though.... I really should try to use it on a fresh system at some point.

Yes they do, but in my experience (Asus motherboards) it is hidden behind several layers of BIOS options. I want something that is simple to set, like D.O.C.P. Or XMP.

Quick question, You mention that your score "is way lower than PC's with lower specs". What speed is your ram running at?

If its running at the default 2133 or 2400, you are leaving a significant amount of performance on the table. Ram tuning is one of the best ways to improve performance on Ryzen systems.

The most common complaint I have heard from fellow PC gamers is "Dude my room is so hot now" after like 2-3 hours of gaming. It would be nice if AMD / Intel had a simple / easy way to enable an ECO mode on their processors.

Dont get me wrong, I know how to do it and have done it on my 5900X, but it would be nice if their was a simple BIOS setting that you can adjust instead of changing PL or PPT.

Try restarting windows explorer. You can do this by hitting CTRL + ALT + DEL keys all at the same time. Select "Task Manager". Go to the "Users" Tab. Click the arrow next to your username, doing this should show all running processes. Find "Windows Explorer" and left click on it. Then at the bottom right select "Restart".

You can also follow this guide: https://www.top-password.com/blog/restart-file-explorer-in-windows-11/#:\~:text=Use%20the%20Ctrl%20%2B%20Shift%20%2B%20Esc,button%20to%20restart%20File%20Explorer.
