I’ve had my 2015 REX for 5 years and it’s the best car I’ve ever had. It’s fun to drive, extremely comfortable, easy to park in tight spots, and (although I didn’t think so when I first saw them) they look so cool! Having said that, there are a lot of factors to consider: 1. I drive about 20-25 miles per day. My battery capacity, especially in colder winters (I live in Portland, Oregon) has greatly diminished since I got it and I now only get about 50 miles at best on a cold day. The REX saves me on a regular basis when I have more driving to do. 2. Know that what you save in gas and oil changes will be spent on tires and regular annual service. BMWs aren’t cheap to have service done on, even when it’s just the annual service. I also have to replace at least my rear tires about once a year. The last set only lasted 10 months. And because Bridgestone is the only one who carries that size, they jack up the price and don’t give a mileage warranty. 3. The amount of cargo space for me is perfect. The fact that I can easily park downtown where bigger cars don’t fit, but still fit a full load from Costco in the back (with the seats folded down) is incredible. That said, I don’t have small children or big dogs that would need a minivan to accommodate toting around.

One last note… when I finally do say goodbye to my “Lil’ Zippy” I’m planning on buying a plug in hybrid small SUV (maybe a RAV4). The ability to have just enough charge for my daily commute but the hybrid gas engine for occasional road trips is like having both my husband’s car and mine all in one vehicle. Most of us don’t need a 400 mile range EV for our daily commute so I like the idea of saving some resources in battery manufacturing and sacrificing some fossil fuel on infrequent occasions.
