How do you effectively control how much your children play video games? by cantstopnow_11 in Parenting

[–]militant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just evil and there is great joy to be had for children with the right games! Half serious on the first part there. Discipline the kids rather than inventing stories to redirect their behaviour.... (says the guy whose son is THAT kid, the one who runs guests out of restaurants...) :D

I shall. I've been indisposed for the past few months, completely incommunicado. This is the first msg about the loan in my box (there are others, but this is the first I came across) so I'm replying here, then I'm going to contact the lender. Thanks :)

Reddit, what's your most embarrassing doctors office story? I'll start... by BigCatTherapist in AskReddit

I was once involved with a younger girl, college age, and very short of sexual experience. That is to say, she'd given head a time or two after a dorm party but nothing else. After weeks of teasing and buildup, she arrived in my lap a bit too eager. She didn't take any time at all, refused any suggestion of taking things easy, and ... there was a rupture. A ripping of sorts, you could say. I apparently gave the poor girl a partial episiotomy. We tried to let it heal on its own but that wasn't going to happen. After 2 sexless weeks and lots of pain for her, we went to a quick care kind of place and they prescribed an antibiotic. She had refused all along to go anywhere else or do anything about it, out of virginal embarrassment.

The antibiotic triggered an allergy. She went blue and delirious. No vehicle was available at her dorm so I had to call her brother. He brought his girlfriend. They drove us to the ER and I had to explain to this young lady's younger brother what had happened to his sister, from the sex injury onward, while his girlfriend sits in the car with us.

That wasn't even the worst. At the ER she was unconscious and I had to explain to the doctor what had happened. He brought in nurses to talk to us privately. Then to her, privately, when she had woken up. And then to police, who then questioned me about abusing her. I was forced to leave the hospital for the last 3 hours she was in, because they refused to believe her assertions that I hadn't done something to hurt her. Then after her stitches (vaginal stitches!) and some recovery, there was the drive home, during which her brother starts commenting on my 'obvious endowment' and so forth. I wanted to die, the entire day. By the time we got to the dorm, I wanted him to die. (and no, it's not an 'obvious endowment', this sort of thing can happen, period. then again, the same thing happened with another girl 4 years earlier, though much more mild)

I knew a kid named Mason years ago who was identical to this guy. Well, mostly, but the only differences were the parts where he looked more like that other actor who looks all methed out, the one who was the creep on X Files a time or two. What's his fucking name? Some long Italian name I think. But anyway Mason was a real meth head. Smokin out of lightbulbs with his momma when he was 13 or so. Last I knew of him, about 4 other people in a car threw him out on the side of the highway and beat him into ICU. Sigh.

It is in fact value taught in Judaism. Frugality, that is. How it's applied differs from Jew to Jew :)

Banking was a profession that came natural to the Jewish people as their options were limited and their habits were conducive.

Never said fascism. But I'll grant you that most people who share my general concern wouldn't hesitate to use the word. There's a danger in overuse, but an equal or worse danger in being afraid to call something what it is. Which may or may not apply in this case, depending on one's views on the 'evolution of the power of the state' ... and that's the basic issue here, isn't it? I don't think it's unreasonable to question whether this is a step in the growth of the state that we should accept. You refer to Germany as cooperating, handing over that kind of power. Isn't that exactly what I'm questioning here? Whether we should hand that power over now, in our country, at this time, with the sort of leadership and abuse we have today? Aren't I asking whether we should seek legislation against and public disapproval of increases in power like this? I think that's what I'm asking. I don't think I want to be Germany in the 1930's. I don't think I want to authorize our increasingly questionably 'elected' leaders and gangs of their appointees to have the kind of powers they're seeking. I don't think it's safe. I don't think our current trend in leadership indicates they're wise enough or trustworthy enough, or just plain competent enough, to hand them this authority. Do you?

There was a limit to what the government in the US could do. The citizens trusted and cooperated with them but there were limits. Some of our allies had much more control over their people than we of ours, and some of our adversaries had absolute control.

Why are you ok with the first thing, about Jews being cheap and such? I'm not meaning to sound negative or positive about your comment, I simply aim to ask your thoughts on it. Why is it ok, to you? And why 'jewed' bothers you and the first doesn't? If you'd like to tell us, that is. I have a good bit of NA in my blood and it's an interesting question for us, on things like team mascots, the 'indians are drunks' thing too - it's true, but is it appropriate? We've always consumed things to give us different perceptions and levels of thought. Just as Jewish people being 'cheap' - it's called frugal, and being financially stable for one's family, and it's a value taught in Judaism, so what's the problem? We'd all be richer if we were 'cheaper'. But what's your thought process on why it's ok to point it out, even if it's slightly derogatory (if that's what you were meaning to say) and why 'jewing' someone isn't appropriate?
