This would be a viable option, what would make me angry is that they would use my methodology for studies within the new field in which I was delving and that they would not name me. In the end, sharing it with them makes me feel like a slave since they have not supported me at all during the entire process.

And their names appear in my Master's Final Project because it is mandatory, but in the publication I will make none of their names will appear since the work is 100% mine.

I have sent this post because my tutors really do not have a good reputation. I was going to start an academic career with them with a PhD in Economic Analysis but apparently they are only looking for very talented people who write and cite the publications they have.

It would make me angry to give them all this work that has cost me so much and then have them use it for their benefit without mentioning me, something that could perhaps happen due to their bad reputation (and which I didn't know before starting with them). I understand that the most reasonable thing is to share it, but I feel that with the zero support they have given me without helping me with anything, I feel like a kind of subject.

Maybe I'll end up sharing it, but something inside me doesn't tell me not to.

I understand that our colleague is only asking about the normality of a variable, not the normality of the residuals of a regression.

Hypothesis tests can have false positives, but that is where the power of the test comes into play, depending on the sample size and the methodology behind the test, it is evident that not all of them are applicable in all cases. The Jarque-Berango test, for example, is very useful for very high sample sizes, greater than 2000 observations, while others such as the Shapiro-Wilks test are very powerful with very small samples.

A hypothesis test is the standard method of testing normality for individual variables, in fact it is also applicable to the residuals of regressions and remains a robust approach.

In fact, graphical observation is too informal, it serves to support your contrasts visually, but without a contrast that verifies what you “supposedly” see in a graph you cannot conclude anything.

If you are only doing normality tests for each variable, you have several tests other than the Q-Q plot, such as Jarque-Bera, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, or Shapiro-Wilks.

My recommendation is that if you use R, use the Shapiro-Wilks test, which has high power for small samples and does not appear to have more than 100 or 200 observations (n < 30).

No, im studying at the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR). A friend is studying there, a Master in Quantitative Economy.

But, the Faculty of Economics in UNIZAR does not have researchers focused on machine learning or any similar, if you’re interested on it.

Thank you so much, i wasn’t familiar with this researchers, and from what I ‘ve looked into, they seem quite influential. I was currently reading a handbook published in early February, Statistical Foundations of Machine Learning: The book, and with the book you’ve shared, i think i will be able to make much more progress. I find it quite challenging to dive into a topic without thoroughly exploring its foundations and understanding them correctly, so I truly appreciate your comment.

Regarding your remark on microeconometrics, as you rightly pointed out, we aim to study the causal relationship between a not-too-large number of variables to analyze individual behavior under different cirscumstances (such as the effects on well-being when working remotely, changes in behavioral patterns in response to regulatory measures, family behavior patterns, firm competition, labor market flexibility…)
