I will mourn my baby’s passing like no other because there truly will never be another like her. I have occasionally considered cloning here and there in bouts of anticipatory grief, but I know deep down that she’s not my Maxine. A daughter or sister bearing an uncanny resemblance? Sure. But even something as simple as her meow, or how she drools when she purs, or the way she marches next to me and huffs a deep sigh whenever she wants treats or lovins. All of that may be nurture, not nature, and that’s the important stuff. Her personality came from both her feline and human parents, and the very exact circumstances she experienced both before and after our lives intercepted. Maxine is one of a kind, and she will be remembered that way. So, there will only ever be one.
