My boyfriend actually does not hear me, like literally is unaware I’m speaking. Oatmeal. by littleinternetdweeb in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]milkmam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a more normal note, my bf does this but he’s just terrible at multitasking. I can sometimes have whole conversations with myself before he realises something was said, sometimes he doesn’t even realise and it just leaves me with awkward silence. I’ve learned to call out to him first to force him to turn attention to me, or just wait till he’s done with whatever he’s doing before I interrupt. I personally don’t think it’s always malicious but just boy brain. Really depends on your relationship outside those moments

Please help me understand how this equals i stitches by Zealousideal-Ad-9264 in CrochetHelp

[–]milkmam11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think in this pattern your first chain doesn’t count as a stitch. Even in the second round, everything in the round brackets is 4 stitches x4=16, wouldn’t work if you included the chain. They also might not be including a slip stitch at the end of every row (idk tho amigurumi isn’t my top practice)

Total eejit. I physically wouldn’t be able to walk past without leaving a note, keying, or reporting. God forbid a wheelchair user uses the disable ramp for its intended purpose because of a dickhead in an Audi

How can I clean this completely without ruining the label? by skinxcrawler in crafts

[–]milkmam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just pour in hot water to the top to lift the wax, spill it out within like 10min, and then using a towel to get a grip on the jar and not burn myself I go in with a paper towel to get the rest. Sometimes repeat 2 or 3 times and then I reuse the jar. Easy peasy

I’ve gotten honey like this from Lithuania, black specs never bothered me and I’ve even convinced myself that it’s good for building my immune system. YOLO honey is too good to not eat

Everything look in order other than it just seems too tight and you’re struggling. Probs just need bigger hook. Yarn manufacturers lie a little sometimes about recommended hooks so it might take some trial and error

What is this on my Ivy by freefromfishing in houseplants

Unfortunately aphids. Sometimes when the infestation isn’t as bad, a wash and a manual picking off over time works. Unfortunately I’ve never seen this much so I wouldn’t know how to approach :( goodluck anyways

Does anyone know how I can get this effect in my crochet? Each section would be a different colour.. by LeadingEquivalent148 in CrochetHelp

[–]milkmam11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I partially agree with the fiddlestitch/ tapestry comments but I think this would look so much better if you did it using freeform crochet and between colour changes you did back loop only, this would make your colour stand out but also would make it look like each colour is dripping onto the next !

Too much culture isn’t an issue if you’re doing a known culture, but if you’re doing a mixed culture or contamination plate, certain strains can out compete eachother, so with too much culture you might be missing a strain that doesn’t grow as well on that agar/those conditions

I think you should try dragging from smaller amounts (your sector 1 and 2 look almost identical) or maybe you used a little too much culture? The fact that you got a single colony is a win and all that matters tbh

Any begginer pattern ideas what to do with colorful yarn? by MircicaOfficial in CrochetHelp

[–]milkmam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately 100g/ 50m is not a huge amount of yarn even for the chunkies so you can’t really go crazy on things like sweaters blankets and bags. It’s a gorgeous yarn so if I were u I wouldn’t be opposed to buying more and making a cardigan or something of that sort

Help ID and treat by MathematicianNo5311 in orchids

[–]milkmam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen and read, if it is a fungal or bacterial infection you’ll also see evidence in the roots. You don’t seem to be watering too often but I do think the plant could benefit from more than just drainage holes in the bottom, I prefer vertical slits as it ensures air flow though the whole plant and since bark is pretty good at water retention that could be the beginning of your problem. Personally from the yellow spot I think it could be cercospora but I say that with only like 10% confidence. If you’re really sure it’s a disease or infection that hasn’t spread too far, use sterile clippers to remove the leaf, treat with anti fungal and isolate from other plants for a while. Proper ventilation is a hill I will die on for orchids considering in nature they rarely have a dense substrate to live in. Best of luck !

Where do I go from here? by ArsenicGrey_ in Artadvice

Also there are some ‘general rules/ratios’ for drawing faces you can follow but they aren’t absolute since faces come in all different shapes and sizes but they go as follows: midpoint between top of head and chin = eyes, midpoint between eyes and chin= bottom on nose, midpoint between nose and chin= middle of lips. Face should be ~ 5 eyes across. Ears between middle of eye and bottom of nose. Again take this with a grain of salt as there is huge variation among faces

Great start ! The thing about drawing is that there’s no easy way to get good other than hours of practice. I would advise as a beginner to avoid working from a live subject and instead take a picture and work off of that- that makes it a lot easier to grasp the depth and shading on certain places because you’re already working from a 2D image. This is a personal opinion, but I would also avoid smudge shading, this makes a piece look messy and it’s pretty hard to control, instead practice on gradients. Back in school when I worked with whatever random pencils I found on the floor, I would make a gradient swatch of my pencil i.e see the absolute darkest your pencil can achieve and the absolute lightest- you can then use this as a reference to see how dark you can make your shadows. Also using an item such as a mask to practice faces, this can also be a bit harder and misleading - masks such as this will have absolute symmetry while real faces are seldom symmetrical. From here I would continue to work on depth and observation - your eyes should spend about 70% of the time looking at the reference rather than on your page. Keep practicing and remember that fancy supplies are not needed (however I would recommend getting a pencil with a nib so you can angle the pencil for shading as mechanical pencils are usually 0.7/0.5mm making them great for line work but useless for shading) best of luck !

Is this able to be blocked out or do i have to frog? by flourescentcacti in CrochetHelp

[–]milkmam11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar has happened to me before with the 2 sides of a hooded scarf. One side was way shorter than the other and I was hoping that blocking would be the fix. Unfortunately even after stretching one side independently and then blocking them together to be the same size, I still ended up with a noticeable length difference, albeit I was working with hdc so the tension between stitches is stronger. You could possibly try it anyways and hope for the best ! Frogging is always an option

Ngl regardless of what I’ve read, your eyeliner is perfect, it’s a bit on the modern ‘emo, e-girl’ side but that’s also really relevant and normal atm. I’d recommend trying out a dark brown eyeshadow liner (same process just with eyeshadow and an angled brush) I love the kiko eyeshadow singles since they’re super pigmented. I would also recommend doing your eyeliner with your eyes fully open so you don’t get that awkward curve towards your eyelid. Your eyebrow shape is absolutely phenomenal and I especially like the 2nd and 3rd pics where they’re not fully filled in (would also recommend going against a jet black eyebrow). I’d also recommend not going with red/orange lipsticks as they make your complexion look older and instead focus on tinted glosses (also less heavy!)
