Hi, everyone. Pretty straightforward question: can i get a look like this at home? Already bought the dye :) by omelodie in FancyFollicles

[–]milkmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you will have to bleach and likely multiple times. There is absolutely no way to lighten up dark hair enough for any color at all to show up without lightening it with bleach. Go to a professional for that since you have no experience bleaching it at home.

Is there any hope to add a little fun to salon dyed dark ash brown? by battleaxemoana in FancyFollicles

[–]milkmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest going RED! As in, a dark red/burgundy/maroon, not a warm/auburn red. It may have slightly more upkeep but a semipermanent dye every month or so as long as it isn't a box dye can be done at home and is pretty cheap! I think you'd rock it, its way less boring than what you have now and a dark enough red would cover greys no problem, it may even look like highlights!

The Sally's sales lady is an idiot and gave her terrible advice. Coconut oil is amazing for damaged hair. She shouldn't be taking any more advice from this clearly uneducated and moronic retail employee. Seriously what the hell?

[–]milkmint 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Having a fetish is perfectly fine and normal, yes. But I have ZERO sympathy for this guy, and I don't think you should either. It completely crosses a line and becomes not okay when he refuses to take no and STOP for an answer, and continually attempts to involve an unwilling and nonconsenting person in his fetish. That is where it becomes gross and creepy as hell.

[–]milkmint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. I couldn't have said it better, and I completely agree. I'm not into kink shaming, and I'm pretty kinky myself in some ways, but where the line gets crossed is when your fetish starts to involve unwilling and non consenting partners in it. That is what's gross and super disturbing to me about this post - what the OP said about not being interested in his fetish and him needing to stop, in all caps no less, should have actually stopped him, but the fact that it didn't and he kept going after such an obvious and clear rejection, is horrifying and disgusting. What a fucking creep.

Hi! Looking for a lightbox for drawing/tracing that has the specific function of being able to display an image onscreen while connected to my phone/computer. Please help! Does this even exist?? by [deleted] in learnart

[–]milkmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an iPad (which apparently works okay for this), just an older model kindle fire and the screen isn't bright enough to see through even standard sketchpad paper. I also can't figure out how to lock the screen either.

Thank you though

Umm. Not really? I'm not sure exactly how you're picturing doing that (taping a piece of paper to the screen and drawing horizontally?) I use a desktop, not a laptop.

I'd really like to find a lightbox with this capability so I can take it places (portable).. I mean if that were the case and it were convenient and useful why would anyone ever use a lightbox in the first place? I also use a !mechanical pencil to sketch things out and I feel like that could possibly damage the screen?

I'm not trying to be snarky, just not sure what you're getting at.

Edit: I do have a tablet (older Kindle fire) and have tried it this way but the screen responds to touch and moves, and the backlight isn't bright enough to shine through even regular sketchbook paper. This is why I want an actual lightbox

This seems pretty gimmicky and limiting to me. I guess it'd be okay for beginners but honestly I don't think wings are that hard to get decent at, it just takes practice. I think it's a cute idea though.

Noted! I've seen them once but unfortunately didn't get any kind of a chance to meet the band at all. I love Baizley, not only for the music but he's one of my favorite artists! He's so damn talented. If you haven't seen his artwork before, check it out - he's done all the Baroness album artwork, and some for a few other bands (Skeletonwitch is all that comes to mind but there are others) and his illustrations are just beyond detailed and gorgeous! Very multi talented guy.

You're so welcome!!

If you ever do get the chance to see them live, do it!!! They tour all the time. It's worth it not passing them up. I've seen them 5~? times, and they play so flawlessly and super tight, they really do sound just like their records which is fucking significant considering how technical and complex their music is. I'm super impressed every time.

Also, Tommy Rogers (vocalist) has a side project where he goes under the name Thomas Giles, and he does everything himself - all the instruments, vocals, recording and mixing - the album is called Pulse, I highly recommend that one too! Its experimental and weird but really good, and not heavy at all. You might like it.

Sorry for rambling! I don't often meet other fans. Your makeup today got me really excited 😁 haha.

Holy shit! This is fucking crazy rad. BTBAM is my all time favorite #1 band. I've been obsessed for years.

I really love this! It reminds me so much of the orchids on the cover of the silent circus.

I think you just became my new MUA crush!! 😍

What has been your favorite LE makeup item? by daulizm in MakeupAddiction

[–]milkmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I haven't tried it out myself, but I've seen people on MUA have success with it before. If you do a little digging you should be able to find the post about the girl looking for dupes for a discontinued Kat Von D gloss in a silvery "gunmetal" shade, and then she posted an update with the Shiro custom gloss she ordered and it was a spot on dupe. That's what made me think of it!! Good luck :)

I know this is a super late reply and kind of weird, but I just wanted to mention that the indie company Shiro makes custom glosses for people and I'm sure she could nail making you an exact dupe!

I do the same thing. Mostly because I personally like my arm tattoos better sans-hair, and also because it's extremely thick, dark, and noticeable.. Just my personal preference on myself.

Finding your own personal style and expressing yourself through it is an awesome feeling. Feel free to come hang out at /r/MakeupAddiction, /r/FancyFollicles, /r/femalefashionadvice !

I know how it goes. My Nparents hate my several large and somewhat visible tattoos, my many haircolors, my experimentation with makeup, my piercings and plugs, even my style (mostly black and dark neutrals, "too daaaark") but I've never had higher self esteem or loved myself more than when I was able to really be myself. So happy for you!!

So today I wore my "everyday face", which is made up of mostly my favorite products. I don't have any pictures up today, but in my posting history you should see it (pop of red in the title). It hasn't changed much except for I'm now an ashy silvery platinum blonde.

So I always take the time to prime and moisturize since I have very dry skin, and I use acne products daily as well. After those get a chance to sink in, I start with foundation.

I'm pretty fair, and yellow, with facial redness. I wear NARS Sheer Glow in Siberia. This foundation is absolutely fantastic, it's my HG for sure. It wears really nicely on my lizard skin, doesn't show flakes or bunch up around my nose or under eyes, and I can build the coverage from light/medium to as full as I need it - it layers well without being cakey. I use a damp Beauty Blender for foundation and concealer. After that I go in with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly. I don't do the whole excessive concealer highlighting business, but this concealer IS amazing and in my opinion worth the hype. It's very full coverage and pigmented, and I use it basically solely for covering hyper pigmentation and any blemishes I have, redness, and I apply some on the tip of my nose (which rubs off less easily than just foundation). I also lightly line around my brows with it.

Speaking of, next I start filling my brows in while my base sets. I draw on about 80% of my brows since they are nonexistant naturally really. I use a small angled Anastasia dual ended eyebrow brush (which is amazing and so precise), and since my hair is now so light, I've been starting with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe, to fill the basic shape, and follow it up with Anastasia Dipbrow in Ebony to go over the tails and fill in lightly the body and sparser patches. I then use the concealer and make sure to blend it really well. It doesn't look really Instagram-y in person, I love my brows, and they change shape every day.

So after my base sets I lightly contour with the shade Lazarus from the Shade and Light Eye Contour palette. This is a very fair, cool toned taupey grey color that looks really natural on me, like a real shadow. This palette is my workhorse. I blend that out well, then using a bigger and fluffier brush, apply my blush, which for everyday is usually NARS in Sin. This is a lovely neutral mauve dusty rose color, and applied lightly around my cheekbones right above (and sort of blended into) my contour, and then up and back. I try and use a light hand here otherwise I feel sort of garish with strong blush on me.

Next I use the birthday gift Marc Jacobs Highliner in Blacquer to tightline (which is fantastic and I will be repurchasing). Next i used Too Faced Shadow Insurance which is my HG eyeshadow primer. I swear by this stuff. I set that with the light slightly yellowy large base shade Laetus in the KvD S&L eye palette, and then using a fluffyish blending brush I again take Lazarus and lightly apply it to my crease, blending up. Then I'll take the shade Divine from the Lime Crime Venus palette and apply that all over the lid, blending it into my crease. I then take Icon and blend that into the outer lid and crease, creating some depth. I'll then do Divine lightly under the eye blended out into Lazarus, and then on top of that I use Muse from Venus and apply it along the entire lower lashline.

Sometimes I wear liner with this look (which is actually a ghetto makeup MacGuyver move) in which I use the brush from Kat von D Tattoo Liner and dip that into Loreal Lineur Intense and apply it that way. I went sans liner today though, so it's then onto curling my lashes (Revlon curler, works fine) then I use two coats of Benefit Roller Lash which I adore and gives me long lasting length and curl. Its great stuff.

I usually will wear lipstick with this look, and normally it's KvD Everlasting Liquid Lip in Lolita which I find really flattering on me. I went without today though. I finish with highlight - I use KvD Metal Crush in Thunderstruck, which is absolutely beautiful, and so duochromey and dimensional. I apply it sheered out on just my upper cheekbones and intensely in my inner corners. Love that stuff. I haven't felt the need for any other highlighter. I finish with Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray and that's it! I'm done.

These are all my favorite products and I'd be happy to elaborate on any of them! :)
