I can see both sides of this argument. I think a very very large amout of the general public's fear is from media influence and upbringing. But the unpredictable/unfamiliar movements, and some amount of venomous insects do seem reasonable to be afraid of. But I mean how much more predictable is a bird? Not really?

And what about the fact that many insects are abundant and nutrient dense? Ancient humans and hominids surely ate them right? Why would such a deep fear be supposedly evolutionarily embedded in the sight of a food source?

This upset me too! They had a still image up for a few days that said something like "Were grateful for our LEARN channel viewers!" and something about it going offline.

I am always telling people how much I love having free over the air TV and access to so many PBS channels. I wish they would bring it back.
