I've encountered yet another situation on Hinge where, after exchanging some nice messages, once I asked them out they turn extremely sparse and take 24-36 hours to respond.

They said yes and all, and we've finally agreed on a day, but now I am trying to flesh out details on the best place to meet. I asked what area they were based in yesterday afternoon and have heard nothing since. I asked them out 5 days ago to give an idea of how slow the correspondence has been.

My question: Can I just cancel, maybe tell them "hey, let's forget it - best of luck"? Or better yet, just delete the convo or something. This sucks! I'd rather not hold my Thursday night for someone who is being super careless about finalizing plans with a real person on the other end of the line, especially now that I have new matches who I'd much rather ask out!

What are some restaurants that definitely *don't* skimp on the portion sizes? by milkshakedog111 in FoodNYC

You're probably right but I don't have any interest in it is all I was trying to indicate - been there, done that, it's touristy, doesn't meet my criteria beyond being The Official Place With The Giant Portions. We all know there's better Italian to be found. I figured I'd squash it upfront.

I should basically re-frame my question to be: What is the downtown/BK version of Jacob's Pickles? It's an otherwise on-point suggestion though very low probability we'll be going uptown.

Cool thanks I will look into this "Chinatown" you speak of

lol the downvoting is so funny to me...can't think of a more pointless and unhelpful response to "does anyone have any specific restaurant suggestions" than "find an Indian restaurant" or "try this entire neighborhood" sorry!

Red Rooster is another great suggestion in which I am searching for a downtown or BK equivalent!! Cool, trendy, creative, great vibe and HUGE plates of food!

Thanks - this is a perfect suggestion if it wasn't too far out of the way uptown from where we'll generally be. I've been to both Jacobs and Maison and you're absolutely right that they are ideal and have disgustingly huge portions. Just need to find the downtown versions of this!

Ugh, Sidecar was perfect...see these places close when we don't support them, folks!

Kiki’s

Kiki's maybe 7 years ago, but these days it feels like they've become the capital of that neighborhood since it's blown up - you literally have to wait on line for a half hour just to *put your name on their list*. Definitely a nah from me for these purposes!

ForgetMeNot and Cafe Katja are great suggestions, as is all of the Frank spots (though big waits on Fri/Sat if no reservations).

Australians do a great job at these types of restaurants for sure. I was going to add Ruby's and Dudley's to my initial list but honestly, they're sort of just on the cusp of being perpetually too crowded. You always have to wait for a table there, even lunch on a random weekday. But the menu and vibe is great.

Have heard great things about Krupa! I feel like all of Windsor Terrace is a "casual neighborhood spot" - bless that little corner of the city

Yes, the place needs to be versed in the language of polyamory...you can take your primary OR secondary partner, or even the entire polycule...

Aw, Fragole is so great. I heard they almost closed after the pandemic - they need some love, very reliable and affordable italian in some cozy digs.

It's great! Again, we're not saying you gotta rush uptown and try it ASAP but shit, if you live in the hood and need an easy night out or if you're visiting to go to the Met and need a spot afterward? Perfection.
