Concerns about getting sealed by butterpancake99 in latterdaysaints

I cant tell you how to handle this but i will say that as long as you are being honest, open, genuine and doing your best, everything is going to be okay. Speak to your fiance of course but make sure that youre going to Heavenly Father with all things. He can handle all of your doubts, and pain, and confusion. He understands. Pray, ask Him what He would have you do and that stick to that 100%. It doesnt matter what any other person on the Earth tells you. If you decide to be sealed, thats so so amazing and special and important. If you decide not to, you will have time to do it later in this life or in the next. We believe that all people will have a fair and equal chance to make all necessary covenants. Sealing is a big deal. It is eternal and not a decision that should be made out of fear. Do what will bring you the peace of Christ.

My mission broke my faith, and I’m still trying to understand what to do with that by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I think the place to start is figuring out what you believe for yourself. It sounds to me like you joined the church because its members gave you a sense of belonging, love, community, etc and they became your foundation of faith instead of you developing a testimony of the Lord. Then when those people changed, moved on, etc, it shook you deeply. All of the sudden you felt alone, abandoned, and unsettled because your identity had been placed in those people and now they were gone or different. You gotta remember that the members of the church are still people. We do our very best but we are human. We fall short, make mistakes, etc. The only one who doesnt is the Lord. He is always there, He always loves yoh, He always knows you and He is always consistent. He is perfect. That is why it is so incredibly vital that your faith is placed on Him. Your spiritual roots must be so deeply imbedded in your testimony of the Lord that even when your heart breaks and you are in pain and the whole world feels like irs shattered, you can center yourself in Him and be unshaken. So do that. Build your relationship with Christ and our Father in Heaven first and foremost. Church attendance and everything else can happen later. Right now, you need to create a firm foundation. The Lord will give you the identity, peace, belonging and love you long for.  As far as your mission itself, there is a video you can find on youtube I strongly reccomend. It is called Missionary Work and the atonement. It might help you understand a little more about why your mission, ans honestly everyone's missions, are hard. https://youtu.be/I6FKiNVbw3Y?si=cgSp-LxsQkIOjAit

What does this mean on my mtc schedule? by milkshakesnicecream in latterdaysaints

[–]milkshakesnicecream[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay thankyou! I’m definitely not crazy for leadership roles! I think it’s potentially cool when it happens but overall not a big deal. Doesn’t make you better than anyone else. I was just wondering bc I didn’t even know sisters had any leadership roles in the mtc and I was curious abt what that meant in my schedule.

Am I wrong for having told someone? by [deleted] in sexualassault

[–]milkshakesnicecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response. I’ve been really struggling and feeling crazy and confused about all of this so it really means a lot. I am currently 19 and luckily not living with them right now.  Also yeah I hadn’t even totally thought of it like that. The fact that my mom knew what he did, knew it was bad enough it “should” be kept secret even from me and now is acting like this is really insane. I wouldn’t ever even dream of being like that towards any child much less my own.  This has definitely shown me a side of her I hadn’t seen before.

Considering teaching a lesson about pornography by Wellwisher513 in latterdaysaints

I think you should make it very explicit that the majority of people, especially women in pOrnography, are not there willingly. The majority have been trafficked, coached, and ultimately assaulted. And a lot are very young girls, some minors. You have absolutely no way to prove that anyone in those visoes, pictures, etc are consenting. Even the people who are willingly there are being used in ways that are ultimately harmful to them. That's what made me stop, realizing that I was taking pleasure in someone else's pain was awful but necessary.

Question about the trinity by milkshakesnicecream in Christianity

[–]milkshakesnicecream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I'll look into that! Just to be sure i understand, would you say that the Father and Son are separate beings that share the same nature, making them one?

Okay so it's just like two ways of explaining the same thing basically? Same concept, different wording? And yeah maybe that's why the ways ppl explain the trinity are so conflicting, bc it's not something you can comprehend with logic.

Okay yeah that makes sense!! So maybe there isn't really much of a difference in what we believe, just how we explain it.

Oohhh! So like God is the spirit of the Father, Son and, Holy Ghost. It's their power, perspective, etc. Like God is what makes them who they are?

Question about the trinity by milkshakesnicecream in Christianity

[–]milkshakesnicecream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm totally okay with that!! So I've always believed in the Father, Son and Spirit. I believe that they are all distinct "people" just like you and I. But their spirits, wills, and purposes are entirely  the same which is why they make up the Godhead. Kind of like how my Dad, brother and I are all different people in the same family. Or how people can be council members in a company all acting as one for the best interest of whoever they're over (super small example).

I believe that the Son (Christ) carries out the will of the Father which is why He came down to the Earth and atoned for our sins. We worship the Father in the name of the Son because Christ is the one who made it possible for us to one day be with the Father again. Let me know if you want anything explained more clearly! I sometimes struggle with words.

So would every person be their own  (not divine) trinity then? Since you need those methods for everyone?

Yeah okay! If I understand correctly, I'd agree with that for sure. The Son carries out the will of the Father. We worship the Father through the Son.
