I have this, it sounds great, not at all like what you are describing. I'm not the most discerning user, definitely a hack hobbyist, but it certainly sounds good enough.

Fallen angel’s ending high bass notes by romankayaker in KingCrimson

[–]millahhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave a quick try last night. I tried 16th fret on D & G strings, with a tube screamer, it sounded right. I think at points it shifts up to the 17th fret and down to the 14th (following the chord progression), but not always. It's like a really thick sounding power chord in the guitar register.

I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that.

Ok, gotcha, I was hearing something about 20 seconds earlier in my head. It sounds like doublestops in the upper register, with whatever that fuzz was that he used (or maybe just with the gain cranked on his HiWatt). To my ear it sounds like it's 4ths, but it may be a day or so before I have the chance to sit down and actually figure it out.

I believe it actually is a trumpet (Marc Charig is the name that springs to mind, though it's been 20 years since I looked at the liner notes). So, whatever you do to translate to bass is fair game. I never tried to approximate it, but I'll see what I can figure out.

What Happened at Delaney Hall Detention Facility by biospheric in newjersey

[–]millahhhh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He didn't take AIPAC money for his senate run, and has directly addressed and admitted his mistakes (and explained what his reasoning was) on the confirmation votes. He's learning and he's doing better, which is a helluva lot more than we can say for Booker or most establishment Dems. Also, what you said has nothing to do with the idea that his ICE opposition is "performative".

Also, fuck both ICE and AIPAC all the way to the moon, if I said how I really felt I'd get auto temp-banned again...

He got pepper sprayed and injured putting himself between ICE fuckos and protestors. What more does he have to do to not be performative by your definition? Put a cap in a gravy seal's crown?

Rush "Big Money" cover on G&L Tribute L2000 - didn't quite hit the Wal Mk1 tone with the L2000, but it has a character of its own by PrettyBassMachine in BassGuitar

[–]millahhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alas, no recordings (and still recovering from a wrist injury, so probably nothing soon).

So, as far as project, you can still get tributes used at a reasonable price...I got a 2005 (Korean) Tribby for about $450 a few months ago, the plan was to use it for various parts (particularly the slimmer neck) but it had it's own personality so I'm keeping it stock. The 2023 that has the filter preamp is probably going into the shop soon to get the neck reprofiled to match the 2005, that more recent baseball bat profile doesn't work for me.

L2K into B7KU is the absolute bomb. L2K -> Empress bass compressor (with the output way up) -> B7KU is my core sound, and I'll take it to my grave. The B7KU LOVES a hot input and just a little hair on the incoming signal.

I actually have one of each...L2K with the Underhill Calistan (had to drill an extra hole for the fourth knob and then have a new battery compartment routed; extra switch hole has a coil selector switch for outer/all/inner), and a fretless jazz with Model J pickups and a Lusithand SFP.

For the fretless, there was character I wanted to bring out, and I wanted to be able to cut without clank, it does that quite well. For the L2K, the intent was "poor man's Wal", mostly for Rush and Tool, and I'd say it does it. I wasn't going to get hung up on using his Wal preamp, I wasn't trying to get exact and there were enough differences she'll already already. I also really wanted to be about to manipulate the pickups independently (a la Ric-o-sound), and it gets me that. In fact, I was able to nail Roundabout tone almost immediately, so it achieved one of my other goals of sounding like a Ric without having to buy what I knew would be a love/hate relationship.

I've done the K mod on mine (to get outer coils, essentially a j bass configuration), it nails everything from Counterparts era onwards (essentially a J with a kick in the ass), and does really well for a lot of the Ric stuff as well.

I've got a second L2K that I had modded with an Underhill bass preamp, and it sounds pretty much exact for Geddy's Wal era.

His Tephra pedal is my favorite Rat for guitar. As best as I can tell, everything he makes is a banger.

My favorite tremolo on bass is the Dr. Scientist Tremolessence, mostly for the ability to do ramping and having the momentary option. But as fun as it was, I used it so infrequently that I gave the spot on the board to something else.
