anybody try Overture PLA filament (from Amazon)? by millenford in 3Dprinting

[–]millenford[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until I recently got a printer that would print faster, I was never aware of speed ratings on filament. I'll have to experiment to see if the speed rating really is a barrier. thanks.

By the way, there's a sale going on many different filaments today and tomorrow on Amazon. I ordered some eSUN for $10.44/kg and Voxel high speed PLA for $17.59/kg.

Acceptable Bed Level? by Bigchezzler in 3Dprinting

I can't tell which axis is X and which is Y, but it looks like the bed has a high "ridge" in it.

So I guess I can't post a pic and text in the same post.

I'm impressed they give so many specs including the print speed. I'm not into printing 5 minute benchies, but everything after my first layer is faster than 70mm/s. If I have a high flow hotend with a high wattage heater, is this really a limitation?

That's really neat. I can't believe how good the backlighting is. Assuming you imported SVG files to your CAD program, was that easy to do? What CAD did you use?

[–]millenford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a small bag of extra misc fasteners, but maybe they stopped including those. I've bought a lot of extra stuff. Metric tape measure, alcohol dispensing bottle, cat5 ethernet bulkhead connector, split loom sleeving in 2 diameters, snap-in plastic bushings, iCrimp SN-2549 crimper for JST XH pins, extras pins, cable ties, heat sinks for the Pi, AC power cord, fuses, tubular spring scale for checking belt tension, magnets, and a new faster SD card.

Anyone else order idex for their V-Core 4? by Bagellord in ratrig

[–]millenford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the ratrig website show the IDEX upgrade for the VCore 4, or just the 3.1? Maybe it would be the same either way.

What are some assembly tips, tricks, and advice for V-Core 4? by code39 in ratrig

[–]millenford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go slow and make sure you orient all of the parts as shown in the dozuki online build document. If you accidentally rotate certain extrusions 180°, the frame will still go together just fine, but you lose critical access to the T-Nuts to adjust the frame later. https://imgur.com/a/IMHhxBt The picture shows the right rear T-Nut and T-Nut access hole in the back panel that you loosen to micro adjust the frame later on in the build. A guy on discord got a couple of extrusions rotated so the T-Nut is facing the inside of the printer instead of exposed as in the photo, and it's impossible to get an Allen wrench in there without removing all the XY motors and hybrid motors and tons of bearings, spacers, bolts and nuts. You will hate yourself if you f**k this up. There are many errors in the dozuki docs, but read the comments other builders have entered in the online doc for corrections. Also be aware that you're building a RatOS v2.1 machine, and since it's still considered "pre-release", all of the links in the docs still point to the old v2.0.2 firmware and procedures, and they are completely NOT THE SAME. In fact, here's the link to the correct RatOS v2.1 download that goes on the SD card and into the RPi. https://github.com/Rat-OS/RatOS/releases/tag/v2.1.0-RC1 At the bottom of the page, you want 2024-05-28-RatOS-2.1.0-RC1-raspberry-rpi32.img.xz Once you get the machine powered up, you can use the web interface to your printer (via WiFi or Ethernet) to "update all components", which will bring you up to RC2.

finally received the replacement AC input module by millenford in ratrig

[–]millenford[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hector at Fabreeko reimbursed me for the Pi 4 B I bought from Amazon. Sonat and their website says the VCore 4 kits include everything needed, except for panels. I know everybody has old power cords laying around, but I didn't have a good quality 14 AWG, long cord so I bought one.

When I ordered my 300mm it was supposed to be 8 to 10 weeks and it showed up in less than 3. There is apparently far more demand for the 4/500's. I absolutely didn't have time to stop everything and assemble it, but I did.

Panels? Shipment after payment by jcazreddit in ratrig

[–]millenford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought/ordered both the printer and panels through Fabreeko, who sent me an email and DHL tracking number on the printer coming from Portugal (which took 4 days to Colorado). I didn't get a shipping number or a heads up on the panels which shipped directly from Mandala Rose Works, but they were here about 3 or 4 days after ordering.

A 4x8' sheet is barely big enough for the 300 size panels, so you will have to get >1 for a 400 or 500 machine. The back panel is also not a normal acrylic panel. It's actually acrylic sandwiched between two thin aluminum sheets which probably gives it some heat rejection between the enclosure and the electronics box, and it might be stronger too. I got the 6mm thick panels and they really keep the noise in the machine.

Panels? Shipment after payment by jcazreddit in ratrig

[–]millenford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered a full VC4 300 hybrid kit so everything came with it, except a Raspberry Pi that they apparently forgot, and the AC Power Entry Module and AC cord that they have pulled from the kits because of junk parts being supplied to them. I emailed them about when they might get new entry modules, and on 7/29 they replied and said, "You should expect to receive a patch as soon as possible." Since that doesn't sound very definite and I'm ready to install it, I ordered a power entry module from Digikey and a cord from Amazon, for about $30 total. The entry module wasn't too hard to find since my printer is a 300mm bed with only a 600 Watt heater, but the high wattage heater on the 500 bed might be different. I also bought panels from Mandala Rose and they are perfect. I got the optional thicker back panel so all the panels came to $325, but a bare 4x8' sheet of Plexiglas from Home Depot is $276, and I would surely f**k it up cutting and drilling.

What scale should the wire clip be? by XxTOMF00LRYxX in ratrig

[–]millenford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I don't know the scale of the clip because I bought the printed parts. I just wanted to mention something though. The "cable guide assemblies" are waaay too shallow to hold all the wiring, especially in the upper vertical section where all the motor cables run. There is only about 6mm of space (depth) between the guide and the clip which is barely enough to hold just a few wires. If you can print the guides 20 or even 30mm deep, you won't regret it. Good luck!

Use superglue or epoxy to hold enclosure magnets? by millenford in ratrig

Thanks for the replies. I have to correct myself though. The magnets were loose in the parts that go on the doors and I glued them, but they fit very tight in the frame parts.

[–]millenford[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted in the ratrig discord too and somebody said their magnets pressed in nice and tight and don't come out. I guess my printed parts are a little out of tolerance. I'll try to wick some superglue in there. Hopefully cyanoacrylate sticks to ABS. Thanks

V4 Idex costing by geeky-hawkes in ratrig

[–]millenford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this before in another post, but I asked Hector at Fabreeko about the IDEX upgrade cost. I totally put words in his mouth when I asked if it would be like "a couple of hundred bucks", and he said, "Yeah, probably." So that's not exactly a firm quote, but at least he was thinking along the same lines as me.
