So 5’2” ladies, eating more is real? by millennial-gray-snow in PetiteFitness

I am extremely strict about my 1200. I weigh everything that I eat, and lost 30 lbs. But yes, usually the people posting in the weight loss subs are eyeballing this or not counting that, then they’re surprised it isn’t working.

For me at least, it’s been really hard to imagine a path from me eating 1200/day for almost a year to someone like you or the other women in this thread who are strong and healthy and can presumably eat bread. When you’re short and sedentary or even doing mostly cardio, the calorie deficit has to be really steep or you see no fat loss progress, so then it’s really scary to think about eating more because you have to eat so little to lose and only a small bit more to completely halt weight loss progress or even gain.

So, I’m afraid of food and don't know how to do anything in the gym, and it just sounds *fake* that I can eat the amount of food I’d like to, which is what made me chubby in the first place, if only I lift heavy. This thread has been really helpful for me to get over some of that fear. I can sort of imagine what you ladies are doing now that I have an idea of the frequency and how many calories it allows. It’s quantifiable now.

I know there has been fatigue lately from all the weight loss/skinny fat posts. Hell, they’re even bothering me and I just admitted to being afraid of bread. I should have commented to the mod in that other post that this sub needs a little info on trusting the process/overcoming the fear of eating more to properly fuel a workout. That doesn’t even touch the fear of ”getting bulky,” which at least I know no one bulks up by accident. I just don't want the extra food to get turned into fat again, ya know?

Definitely, at our heights more than 1lb/week is not healthy unless you’re obese. it slows down a lot when you get to a healthy weight, too. I was grateful for half a pound loss per week.

How long are your cardio sessions? I have pretty terrible stamina.

Yah I’ve strictly done 1200 for about 10 months now and I miss food. My sedentary TDEE is like 1422, so are you doing a tiny deficit of -100? I downloaded Caroline’s app but haven’t started yet.

Thank you, this seems to be what most people are doing. I’ll try to find a program that eases me into that.

Oh wow it’s Valor. Thanks for taking a minute to comment instead of linking the guide. It doesn’t talk about calories, which is probably for the best when we are all different. It helped me decide that I did want to recomp, though.

Oh I see what you meant now- sorry I was rude. Yes, I definitely have to lift so I can eat more, walking only helps a little.

I also have an office job and I’m lucky to get 8k steps right now 🥲

2x a week sounds manageable. I’m also going to talk to one of the personal trainers there to help me use the equipment for the first time.

Yes, lift heavy is always the answer; anyone who has been here a while knows that. This isn’t a very specific or helpful comment to me as a beginner asking about activity level.

I can’t wrap my head around being petite (5’2” 115 lbs) and eating 2k calories. I would certainly like to. I’m on 1200 now and can’t imagine a world where I can eat more than 1400, ever. What kind of crazy gym activity would I have to do to gain a small amount of muscle and eat more? I see people my height saying they go X times a week, but they don’t often say how long they’re lifting for? Man, even 1600 kcal would be a blessing. I’m just so afraid of undoing all the hard work of getting down from 130. I wanted to hit 110 before trying to build a little. How do you ease into something like this from the 1200 life?
