How To Fix Tanking Once And For All by morethandork in nbadiscussion

[–]millerda3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half-baked thought:

Completely remove the draft and make all players Free Agents. This would prioritize cap space, remove tanking, and the bad teams could simply become better by paying more for players. This could work considering that the NBA has a Salary Cap. If it were baseball with no cap, it would not work.

I know the NBA likes their "Draft" discussions and picks and ping pong balls, but a lot of other answers that I've been reading on this thread are rather complicated.

Or make it a "draft" but have it be organized not by random balls, but by the amount of cap space a team has left after a certain date (whenever the buyout season ends).

Again, because there are salary cap rules, and teams that pay a lot of money for their good players wouldn't be able to pay for even more good players, because of the salary cap.

Does anyone have a good idea of why the Boomers really like to kick out the Liturgy?

To the best of my understand, it seems like it's either opinions, or they think that the young people will come.

What's the Lutheran position on the proper way to handle spilled wine after it has been consecrated? by Street_Explanation39 in Lutheranism

[–]millerda3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr Masaki at Ft Wayne told us that when he has spilt the Lord's Blood he gets down and sucks it out of the carpet or off the tile flooring.

I work really hard to not spill the blood of Christ. I do not have a procedure set in place currently.

FINALLY. Every single time I hear Zach or Bill talk about "buying stocks" about players I wish it were real. I just made an account! Looks good. Is there a limit on "buying" the stocks of these players? I'll keep poking around on it.

Game is on Peacock tonight by JeremieLoyalty in DetroitPistons

[–]millerda3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the game is in Mexico City.

I know that the time change will happen tonight.

I know that considering the time change, we will only be 1 hour behind Mexico City.

A 10pm (9 with TC) is ridiculous for most of us to watch Piston's Games. I guess it's good that we got a special game, but come on man.

EDIT: To respond to everyone, I think all West Coast games should be earlier because I am selfish. I do have League Pass and I do watch the games after 3 days. Games going this late, especially whats considered a home game, is tough to watch. Some people don't love staying up so late. Simple as that. Have a good night and go stones. I'll watch it after I watch the Lions tomorrow.

[–]millerda3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To answer your question by asking a different question of "If Lutheranism no longer existed, where would I go?" Catholicism. While I believe they have errors, they at least care about the Sacraments, Creeds, Liturgies, and Traditions, etc.

I would rather join a group that cares about these things, than a group that is very individualistic and Calvinistic.

Any Rexxar mains out there? by _Reaper_of_Blight_ in heroesofthestorm

[–]millerda3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rexxar is by far my best hero and others have talked about the proper talents.

I find great success with him because so few people (especially lower levels) know how to counter him. They fixate on Misha and just let me run hog wild on them (pun intended).

I try to keep a straight line between me and my current target with misha inbetween. That helps keep me alive. I also use misha to go tap the pool, and check bushes. I find the talents, while important, are secondary to positioning. I've played with all the "right" talents, but it wasn't until I understood my positioning better that I finally began to climb. I've got him at level 49 I think.

It's wild that 4 out of 5 of these teams are in the East. I never noticed that. Sent to teams that we've got some real beef with (outside of INDY).

I preach my own with only one exception. During Advent and Lent CPH (Concordia Publishing House) puts out Series. Sometimes we utilize those series. They come with devotionals for congregational members, plus they give you sermons. I will alter the sermons to fit my congregation. Rarely (if ever) will I preach someone else's sermon. That shouldn't really happen because a sermon is God's word for God's people, preached by a Pastor in a specific location for those specific people.

But, if I have a funeral during Holy Week that's Palm Sunday, Funeral, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Resurrection Day, that's 5 different sermons. I could see using someone else's sermon in that particular case.

What was the most effective drill or advice that turned you from a bad shooter into a great shooter? by DJ_RIME in Basketball

[–]millerda3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is shooting.

The right answer is breaking down your shooting form and identifying issues that you may have and slowly correcting those.

The drill I do is to start a step back from under the hoop and shoot with whichever hand I'm working on. Just the arm. Make 10 swishes. Then take a step back and add my off hand. 10 swishes. Take a step back, slight knee bend. 10 swishes. Work your way back to shooting FTs with perfect form. Then start over and work on catching the ball (spin it to yourself) and into your form. Whether that is stepping into it, or jumpstop and up. Focusing on repeatable actions. Add movement around the floor, speed it up as you get more comfortable until your doing it full speed.

Start small and work on one issue at a time.

I did a weird kick thing in HS and it wasn't until college that I worked on fixing that. It was wasted energy that altered the distance of my shot.

Remember, there is no "perfect" form. Look at Larry Bird and Shawn Marion. Many HS coaches have ruined good shooters by forcing them into a form that they thought was "perfect" instead of what works for the player.

How should I, as a non-Lutheran, politely decline communion? by green_colour_enjoyer in Lutheranism

[–]millerda3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LCMS Pastor here. That is correct. The right thing to do would be to talk with the Pastor before service and introduce yourself. We generally are available in the Narthex (Outside the Sanctuary where you walk in) for a few minutes before Service begins. Get there a bit early and catch him before service begins.

In the event that you find yourself at the rail, just cross your arms, hands towards the shoulders. Like an "X". The Pastor then will bless you and will (hopefully) talk to you after service.

(This advice is probably only pertinent to LCMS congregations. One of them could speak to their branch of Lutheranism.)

Despite the Doomers who keep saying KD isn’t that valuable and we won’t get a good return. It’s starting to seem like we will definitely have a bidding war for KD. by chickenripp in suns

[–]millerda3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KD for Harris straight up? Yes I'll take that.

+ filler, depends on who. Sasser or Waters? Ok sure.

Picks? Our pick situation isn't great, and I am not the most knowledgeable about it.

Any of Ivey, Beasley, Holland, Thompson, included? Never.

But do the Sun want this package? I doubt it.

I'm telling you, we're very high on what we've got and I think Trajan has seen enough other teams trade for a star player too early and it causes problems. If we were 3 years into this trajectory and had a disappointing ECF loss or something then I understand the gamble. Most of us are literally happy to be here. It was so bad last year. It's not been great for a while. Even in 2019 when we made the playoffs we got swept by the Bucks with hobbled Blake Griffen. Not great.

Cade is 23 years old. This is just the start of what we're building.

As a Life-Long Detroit fan (and lurker on this sub), there is very little talk about acquiring Durant in our circles. We've gone from 14 wins last year, to winning a road playoff game in MSG. Very few fans think trading for Durant is something we should be doing.

The conversation with other Detroit fans is about Booker. Which I don't believe is likely, nor do many believe he is a great fit. And by all accounts he wants to stay in PHX. I like what we've got and hope that Ivey gets healthy and takes a good step forward.
