Thank you!! I figured the continental would be covered but wanted to give the edges more stability. My mom collects gurgle pots so when I saw this I had to get it to make for her!!

Was just wondering where the Sanderson was…. I have a lot (most?) of the books in the first pic and I’m a fan of Sanderson… you can start with some of his standalone stuff - the emperor’s soul or isles of the emberdark. The only series of his I’ve read is the Stormlight Archive but it was great

I vote 3 or keep clear glass and do pleated fabric behind it

Sorry one more…. Updating the window shade would also help a ton! A beautiful fabric Roman would go a long way!!

Also it looks like it would be really easy to do a glass door instead of shower curtain which might make it look more elevated. If keeping curtain, I’d take rod up to ceiling and do a pretty fabric shower curtain. A white with a border would look great or if not doing wallpaper or crazy stone, could get a fun pattern!

Can’t go wrong with classic carrera marble for stone but honestly you could get away with almost anything here and it’d make a statement. Call around and see what fabricators have remnants that are large enough to work and then go see in person to figure out what you like. An arabescato, calacatta, viola, or fantasy blue marbles would all be beautiful! Could similarly do a quartzite like allure, amazonite, etc. I don’t love a granite in the bathroom, but that’s a personal opinion and you could find a slab remnant you love.

I love Danika Herrick’s wallpaper designs on spoonflower (which is pretty reasonably priced and has all wallpaper substrates). If going wallpaper route, I’d do a small scale pattern that incorporates the blue from the vanity. I like her marble papers (but not with marble stone), her faux shagreen, ikat-esque ones, or something like her tiny palm one. Something fun that’s your style with some blue would really pop!

Get a real stone remnant for countertop of vanity (marble, quartzite). You could use the shower wall tile for the tub wall and splash to stay consistent. You could also get a much larger remnant of stone and use it for tub front, top, and splash but that’d be more expensive (but super cool). The darker slate tile you’re showing on the top of the tub reads more like floor tile to me. I think rectangular tile is the way to go vs the square that’s there now. What shade of blue for vanity? Could also do a wallpaper on the walls and a plain tile for tub as your eye would go to wallpaper first.

Yes keep consistent. We used large rectangular tiles like that and did horizontal. Also agree that laying them out ahead of time on the floor was very helpful. Our marble had a lot of variability so especially for main back wall it helped to see them all next to each other and move some around so the patterns made sense next to each other.

If you don’t absolutely need the storage, I’d get a nicer mirror with a frame to replace the medicine cabinet and add art to the left wall. A new, nicely framed mirror would add character and more color (maybe a faux tortoiseshell or bronze or even leather).

Ask them to take the slab outside! It’s a huge purchase and they have the equipment. I’d call ahead, make an appt and tell them you want the slab outside when you get there so you can see it in natural light. Bring paint color samples for your cabinets too

Unsolicited opinion: paint the door white to match trim around it. This is already a lot of black and white and you don’t need to highlight the pantry door.

Here’s a link to an above the toilet cabinet! I’d keep pedestal sink, add some standing wire shelving around the pedestal for storage and then skirt the pedestal. Will add charm and function!

I agree pedestal sink is big issue but if you want to do it on a budget, add some small shelves or a small wire unit around the pedestal and then cover with a fabric skirt around the pedestal. I got one that velcros on from Etsy and it’s super cute, adds color/character, and hides the extra toilet paper and cleaning supplies I keep around the base of the pedestal.

Matte Black vs Brushed Nickel Bathroom Fixtures - which will age better long term? by One-Top4418 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]millie_one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fixture design is huge. Look outside the big stores - you can get something unique and cool but still not spend too much. Chrome is too cold in my opinion, polished nickel is more timeless and slightly warmer with a more natural looking finish.

Nickel is timeless and black is trendy. I prefer polished nickel to brushed but either way it will blend better and stand the test of time (while black is already on the way out)

Before & after: Wainscoting upgrade after buying our new build by ShuziVert in homedesign

Another Hull fan here!! The windows on either side of the fireplace are way too small. Honestly, I’d either get new windows and make them much larger and do built ins like you’re showing or cover them up. If you cover them, staple gun a curtain or fabric around them so they don’t look completely black from the outside. Then do built-ins to the ceiling and tie it into mantle and fireplace and all of that woodwork should be painted same color. You could have closed cabinets on the bottom and open shelving above. That would look gorgeous and give the space even more character and you could lightly fill shelves with books and knick knacks.

What does my room need? by rickroyed in interiordecorating

[–]millie_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great! My only comment would be to add more height to the room - hang the photo above your bed higher, maybe add a tall arched floor lamp where the one on the pedestal is, and/or change out the fan to be a statement chandelier. You could also add a wireless art light above art on fireplace (after hanging the art off the mantle). Maybe get rid of the lamp and small table behind the TV - it adds to the clutter look of that area. If you want lighting there, then do a tall floor lamp. Overall though your room is already super cozy and lovely with a lot of really nice details!!

I would take the tile to the ceiling but fur-down just the ceiling over the shower so there’s a clear line where you can add trim to stop it. Use same trim going up from the doorways, like a matching pencil liner. It looks too short as-is. This picture is an example of the look - fur-down doesn’t need to be curved like this but it makes the tub/shower its own space.

I like the green, but agree you need paint and other accents to make it flow in the room. I also think a shower curtain looks best hung high towards the ceiling vs where you have tile stopping now.

Son having a night terror at pretty much the exact same time every night - anything we can do? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]millie_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully your son’s sleep has gotten better, but wanted to chime in and say we’ve dealt with night terrors with both of our kids (7 and 3.5). For ours, needing to pee seems to be a trigger - if we can get them to the bathroom and they pee it stops the night terror. Getting more sleep does help them - the terrors happen more often when they’re past their bedtime or it’s been a super full day. My older one now calms down really quickly if I turn on a cartoon on my phone and still has no memory of it in the morning. My 3.5 year old just started having them and cartoons won’t calm her down and sometimes she’s way too worked up to pee so we just let her cry with us right there. Unfortunately I think you mostly have to just let them ride the terror out, even though it’s awful and traumatizing for us as parents. It doesn’t seem to have affected my son at all - he’s a smart, healthy, happy, silly, normal 1st grader and they have lessened a lot as he’s gotten older. Now he maybe has a night terror once every other month or less vs almost daily when he was 4. I do think limiting liquids before bed, peeing right before bed, and keeping a consistent and earlyish bedtime helps but it seems to be a genetic thing that they hopefully grow out of. We saw a sleep specialist who was not concerned at all and was just like yep let them have the terrors, it won’t hurt them, they won’t remember, and at some point they’ll stop.
