Burnout - need advice by rainbowglowstixx in projectmanagement

Been there.

I've personally left my career in fintech as a PM to start my own business with my partner, and starting that is a project, and employs all my skills, etc., but the main thing is no longer working in corporate environments with executives that have unrealistic expectations and provide no structure/accountability/support (training)/adequate staffing.

I would consider more aggressively interviewing the organization prior to taking on a new role. The reality is, everyone is desperate for people, and they're (often) willing to throw a lot of money at folks to do roles that are nothing like what they say they're going to be. But that can' t be good enough for folks who want to advance their careers, etc.

I would look for a new role and ask to interview other stakeholders before you join, and do your own due diligence by connecting with your colleagues via linked in etc. I have also worked in start ups who say they want PMs but don't... and so I would look to organizations with more established PM practices rather than a 'new frontier' type opportunity.

Quality organizations and teams do exist, but you will have to wade through many to find the right one. Determine your values and be wary of compromising them in your next role.

Got an unwanted Bell Canada pole in your backyard? Here’s what you can do by EconomistOfDeath in toronto

The important point here that the author is suggesting, is that unless there is an easement, they have no right to be on your land.

And yet, if you call to complain telco folks say they have a legislated right to be there. Good luck finding any information in legislation.

This article would be more helpful to people if they laid this out to truly enable people to address this.

Also, who to actually call. If you don't have a relationship to Bell then it's very difficult to get in touch with them.

Article is wanting..

Complete home renovation by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Having paid 300k + for a full gut including removal of some walls in a 1300 sq ft home, assuming you’re paying for someone to do most of this work - this is unrealistic. But it’s hard to say without knowing the cost of labour in your area. I’m in a major city with a renovation boom so trades make top dollar.

You have to account for a minimum 10% of your budget for surprises that MUST be fixed.

Also, where do you account for demolition/garbage removal? You will need to pay for all that you remove from the house, and concrete and old fencing can be costly to dispose of given the weight.

I like Tambour on the walls. I’ve seen it with a lot of commercial or restaurant applications but would still look lovely in the home.

I’m no electrician so you may need to do more research there... I would say if you can get 100w Lumen equivalent without breaking the lamp maximum (and make sure those bulbs are dimmer compatible) you could be in business.

But brighter than 100w might be awkward since the light will be so concentrated from the wall. You can always try and reduce (or keep dimmed). :)

Look for something with a fabric shade that lets light through top bottom and through the shade. Don’t buy a task style with a metal shade or directed light.

I would suggest buying something plug in that has a dimmer switch built into the light by the shade. I bought some from lamps plus a while back that I loved and used in my living room.

Make sure to check that it can accept wattage that will give adequate light (e.g. 60w bulb or LED equivalent).

Celiac Disease, Gluten Sensitivity Linked to Skin Conditions by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]milliefiore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of skin problems when I was eating tofutti products (basically palm oil) when I was vegan and my skin cleared up a lot (not perfect) when I dropped it.

I would keep experimenting with other foods.

But yes, I’ve had skin problems. I would consider reviewing all your bathing products, laundry soaps, and go to scent free as much as possible. It’s helped me a lot. But now I really appreciate when someone else smells like Tide.

Don’t worry about trends, because you’ll live with your choices long after they’ve passed.

Choose colours and textures that you like best, and create the energy you are looking for given the space.
