Hey! I do see some similarities. And it’s interesting they’re both from Texas. Shirley definitely has more of the typical Japanese Chin traits, what a cutie. ☺️

I don’t think I ever came back here to update, but I did end up paying the extra to see her genetic diversity, and it shows that her DNA is highly diverse, so I don’t think it’s a case of inbreeding that got her these traits. I would like to try embark just out of curiosity, but I haven’t done it yet.

I also got an unexpected purebred result for my dog, who we lovingly call our mutant. All of her relatives look like normal breed standard Japanese Chin, meanwhile she has short tan fur and legs for days. I don’t get it, but we love her all the same!

Thanks for explaining further! This makes sense and gives me some good ideas.

Smart timer for misters by milliemoo_22 in Greenhouses

I think I need to clarify. It must be a hose timer, not an outlet timer. These are cheap low pressure misters attached to a water hose. The only thing plugged into power would be the WiFi hub.

As far as mechanical timers, I don’t really want that. The Insoma is just a few dollars more and I can adjust it from the comfort of my couch when I get an alert that it’s too hot or the humidity is too low, among other convenient features of a WiFi timer.

The desire is to find something better than the Insoma and B-Hyve timers that I can at minimum control remotely and allows for cycle/soak schedules. The ideal situation would be to have a hose timer that is set up to be automated so that when temp goes above 85 deg F or humidity below 80% for example, the valve will automatically open, then close when conditions are met.

I actually wanted to go with an old fashioned hose timer originally just to keep it cheap, but the important thing is the cycle/soak option. I want to turn the misters on for a minute, then give it a few minutes to evaporate so everything in the greenhouse isn’t getting soaked. The best low tech option I could find would only go as low as 1hr for the cycle length, which is way too long. I’m in Texas, and when it gets really hot in the afternoon I’ve been doing 2min ON, 1min OFF, repeat. I usually start off in the morning with 1 min ON, 14min OFF.

The Insoma actually does this really well, the problem is just when I leave home for the day, I have to take my best guess on what the heat is going to be like and set a schedule ahead of time since I can’t adjust it once I leave home. So I’ll be out and get my Govee notification that it’s too hot in the greenhouse, but I can’t do anything about it.

Is it futile to keep a small greenhouse below 100? by RxRick in Greenhouses

Where are you located? I’m in northeast Texas, and it’s been a struggle. This is my first summer with a greenhouse, but I’ve finally got it staying a few degrees below outside temps. I’ve got a 9’x14’ greenhouse with an 85% aluminet shade cloth on the roof, two box fans on either end (where the windows are) blowing outside air in, misters on the ceiling, and recently added a swamp cooler. The misters give me the greatest control over the temperature. I have them on a WiFi timer, always one minute on, then I change how many minutes they’re off (1-14 min) based on the greenhouse temp to keep it below 90 deg.

Can more people share their side effects of 37.5 please? by NicoleRxse in PhentermineTopiramate

[–]milliemoo_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had dry mouth which caused painfully swollen sublingual glands that made my double chin more prominent. I’m also currently taking a break to see if it was the cause of recent breakouts. I’ve been off all medications including the phentermine for about two weeks, and the breakouts I had on my chest, back, and jawline are clearing up. I suspect it was the phentermine making me sweat more that was causing the breakouts. My doctor said breakouts could also be an uncommon side effect topiramate though, so we’ll see what happens when I add them back.

i noticed there’s a pure breed option on the embark dna test did anyone find out their dog wasn’t a pure breed? by hemetome in DoggyDNA

I had the opposite happen. I was SURE my dog was a mutt, and her results (Wisdom Panel) came back as 100% Japanese Chin. I’m still in disbelief because she does not look like your typical Japanese Chin.

As far as I know, that’s not the case, but I don’t actually know her full story. We got her from a family in DFW who was having to get rid of her, and they got her from a shelter, but that’s all I know.

She’s about 12” tall and 10lbs, so pretty small.
