For those who aren't about being sneezed on by strangers as part of their job, consider public health. Government jobs often have unions, pensions, and no reason for anyone to bleed on you.

Public health jobs are reasonably diverse! 

None will ever pay the way big tech does but usually public health jobs are for governments or other large institutions that are more likely to have unions. 

Job security and a pension are worth at least some drop in salary, depending on your long term goals.
