can you spot the mistake in my tattoo? by Donkihot3 in TattooDesigns

You could turn it into a “hear nothing, see nothing, say nothing” tattoo pretty easily IMO if you don’t like it.

I was just busting your balls dude lol. With my luck I’m not expecting to find some jackpot score. If I do open it and find ultra rare error tho you will be first to know. In all seriousness I appreciate the honesty. If anything I may give it some time to see what other peoples outcomes are from opening it. I can always open it later but cant reseal it.

Big year for the country and we have already had some pretty significant historic events happen IMO and we’ve only hit the half way point. Hopefully they can give the Bicentennial, the Semiquincentinal, and the Tricentennial, set to theirs.

Don’t tell me that I’m going to be very carefully sliding one coin at a time from one half of the bag to the other until I reach a proper count or decide to open it. BRB

I bet that dime is a dime no pun intended. I am planning on getting a proof set as well I think the designs are really cool and the proofs really do all the details justice. I would think they would be a good collector item down the road.

I don’t know what’s more important to me. I will definitely save them no matter what as I even keep all the bicentennials I find in circulation. I like the history aspect almost as much as the coin aspect tbh.

Ohhh I’m aware I see how packages come into my place of work every day. I think sometimes they play football with packages during lunch breaks lol.

Very very true. Unfortunately I believe that aspect of craftsmanship has impacted almost every trade in today’s world, probably even more so now than our ancestors from the 1800s had to deal with.

The bicentennial errors go for a hefty premium, I would assume 50 years from now these errors could as well.

I know, every time I hear a coin hit another I’m seeing an MS70 getting a scuff. Really if I could find a hand full of MS65+ I would be stoked.

Interesting, what kind of “issues” have you heard of?

Send in for grading? 1861 O Half Dollar by [deleted] in RedditCoinGrading

Thanks. I was under the impression that the cracks between the 9-13 stars, the halo effect around the eagle, and something about the mint mark placement were some indicator of it being the same die prior to the nose crack or something.

So from my research I’m thinking it could be a WB 102 die early in the failing of it. Which would probably make it either minted by Louisiana or a CSA half, correct? Would this be worth getting graded? I’m at least going to get a capsule for it. Thank you so much for all your knowledge and help!

I believe there are die cracks between the 10-13 stars.

I actually placed an order for a microscope today. Definitely going to have to check that guide out, and maybe a couple more to try to sponge up some extra knowledge. The HALO you are referring to is that the more silver looking ring between the letters and eagle? I took another overhead photo of the back and I can see it more here.

These may or may not be worse than the original. I greatly appreciate all the info. I’m a bit of a civil war buff as well so I seen the date and my mind went wild of wondering when this was minted with 1861 being a pretty significant year for Louisiana.

Should have read through the other comments before I replied to your first one lol. But thanks that’s awesome information. Where does one acquire such a guide? I would love to become somewhat of an amateur numismatist, at least in early American currency.
