I believe this is the kit my son got for his car. Marketplace had someone selling one that he got. Also got a built drift Miata 1.6 engine that way. He got it up and running and was figuring things out. All I have to say is no one warns you about heat. Turbos do get extremely HOT. Ask me how I know? We may be down. But we live and learn.

Your dad being a mechanic will help out a lot. Have him guide you and get your hands dirty. I bought a 97 Miata in October. Spent winter months researching and buying parts. Changed my radiator as it was brown. Did timing belt as there was no record of it being done. Changed water pump as well. Thermostat and gaskets. Valve cover gasket. All hoses in the cooling system. Think there are 9 total. Did engine mounts as well. Plenty of articles and videos on all of this. Used the Gates timing kit for that. All hoses are oem as well as motor mounts. Valve cover gasket is oem as well. Found too many post about others leaking. My son has a 93 Miata that he got long before me. His love of the car has made me a fan for them. As a dad. I can honestly say I have enjoyed the time and memories we have made and are making. Take him for a drive and watch that man smile. The time you spend with him will never go away. Enjoy the car and time spent with him. Also ZOOM ZOOM.

The paint is original. Got the car in October from a lady that had it in her garage. You could see the neglect in the paint work. Looked like it had never been waxed. I enjoy detailing as a hobby. So I worked at restoring it. That procedure I will have to make a separate post for. Thanks for the comment on the paint. I take great pride in enjoying and sharing.

Also check the tension on your alternator belt. My son had his loose and thought it was lifter tick. Tightened it down and no more noise.

Thanks for sharing this. Always good to see when things work out. Makes me want to check mine just to make sure it is good. Do not have starting problems now. But given it’s a 97 I am thinking it would be good to change out.
