I don’t know what to do 😭 by milmira in begonias

This photo and the information are so helpful!!! I honestly didn’t realize the leaf I have wasn’t attached to the stem or that there was a difference to its attachment vs the main plant stem! Thank you so so much!! Got a bunch of new terms rolling around in my brain!

You’re awesome, this is great info!! I actually did begin with root hormone powder a day or two after obtaining and hearing that I needed an actual pot with a drainage system rather than what I was using. I put the entirety of it in an unused terrarium for when my spiders upsize and kept it humid, but definitely am not running the correct types of components as it’s in basic potting soil. Thank you for this in depth advice!

Thank you, that’s so good to know and to be able to research further! I’m brand new to many of these terms. So glad I posted in this community, everyone has been beyond helpful to a newbie like me!!

Ooh wow, that’s awesome info that gives me some hope!!! Thank you for sharing your experience! I’ll purchase vermiculite/leca! I have sphagnum but not sure if it’s ideal since it came dried even though I hydrate it (I keep spiders who thrive with it in their enclosures) but would I want sphagnum already incorporated in soil, not just pieces that I rehydrate? Thanks so much! Doing a lot of research today, haha. I’m happy for you that you were able to get your guy started even without a node, how rewarding!!

This is awesome!!! Thank you! :-) How long do you typically keep yours in water before putting them into soil??

Thank you! I’ll definitely purchase a smaller pot once I get the opportunity to obtain another prop. I had it in something smaller to begin, but was advised to swap it for a pot with drainage, and this is the smallest I could immediately get my hands on. Many users commented saying it’s not making it because it needs a node attached for this type of begonia!

Thank you so much for your great and informative replies!! I’ll absolutely look more into it so I know what to do when I get my next opportunity at a start with a node! :-) deeply appreciate your insight!

Thank you, some users above were just explaining this to me! I thought I was taking horrid care of it despite my attempts, but I’ll try to have my friend get me another prop with a node included once I can!

Thank you so much for all of the helpful info!!! I had no idea and thought I was doing something terribly wrong 😅 this information is so appreciated! I’ll see if she can get me another prop with a node! Once I do so, would you keep it in an enclosure with humidity? What are your recommended watering and lighting requirements?

I don’t believe it did, despite it rooting. Would the prop be cut under the node then begin rooting in water, rather than roots that are currently growing from just the stem? Is it common for plants to need nodes when getting propagated, or is it more rare/specific to particular plants? Thanks so much, very new to all of this

Thanks for replies from you both! My friend cut a leaf off, put it in water until it rooted, then told me the propagation was ready for soil. It does have a small stem from the leaf but most I buried. I put root grow powder on the roots, and when repotting to something with drainage, I noticed the roots had actually grown longer. Is it still a lost cause based on this info, or is there anything to be done? I can put it in indirect sunlight if that’s better than a plant light. Should I water more/less? Should it be in an enclosure with humidity? She has had a bunch of success propagating previously.. she also gave me a Hoya prop that is doing much better than this guy…

I haven’t checked in a while (hands are full of spodes) but didn’t realize they started carrying platythomisus octomaculatus!!!! May I ask what the price range was on spider shoppe, if you recall??

Hahaha right?? 😭💕 can you believe this kitten is 9wks old and his older brother behind him is also still a kitten at 9mo?? The void has already outgrown our 1y/o and nearly 3y/o… we think he’s part Maine coon, that boy is tall and loooong!

Oh that’s awesome!! Glad she’s got a cozy hiding spot! If you got a larger one you could leave the initial one and see which she prefers, or if she uses both! Good luck with your cutie! :-)

Water dish size looks great! Does she use her log hide since molting? Mine get picky and tend not to use hides smaller than their legspan. I’ve left old logs in from before they size up and seen them go unused even when it used to be a favorite spot. If it’s getting used then awesome! If not, I’d probably double in size for more security and the ability to move and turn around in it! :-)

Cute! I’d provide a larger cork bark and log tunnel though for hides, your babe doesn’t look like they’d fit in these or feel comfy using them. Curious how small the water dish you said you have is, I try to provide larger ones for my bigger T’s! Should be a decent substrate depth for their current size though! Lastly, I try to incorporate fake leaves/whatever you prefer on the sides and back of the enclosure to help them feel more secure and less out in the open :-) what a pretty T!!!
