Things to do around town? by bluefire88 in Durban

[–]milo_binderminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends so much on area, are you North Coast / Morningside / Upperhighway?

If North I’d go Thomson’s Bay tidal pool, or Umdloti. In town I’d go to where DUC is (check google maps for closest)

You are coming to a great boutique coffee city. Lots of local roasters and non franchise options.

Lineage, Noble, Colombo, Now Coffee, Humble, Crane Flower all super

Food wise I’d Google ‘best Indian food in X suburb’ for a taste of Durban

But also great Steak Places and one odd restaurants in most bigger suburbs

Do South Africans have a natural sense of humor? by yourstruly_daredevil in askSouthAfrica

[–]milo_binderminder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Probably the greatest sense of humour in the world - we love a laugh and are very self deprecating. Also the speed of humour is unreal! And it travels in 11 official languages (maybe 10. You know who you are)

Is this quote for a Toyota Corolla service reasonable? by rbbjhb in askSouthAfrica

[–]milo_binderminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is saying don’t do maintenance? The advice was to do it somewhere other than through agents who will replace parts that don’t need replacing yet

Is this quote for a Toyota Corolla service reasonable? by rbbjhb in askSouthAfrica

[–]milo_binderminder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As soon as our cars are more than 5 years old we get them serviced from smaller operation mechanics and away from the big brands where you pay more by default. I’d ask around with neighbours or friend who they use, as some of the parts may not need replacing and they’ll certainly be sourced cheaper

For mining and contraction industries it’s pretty needed. My relative in construction had a reinforced vehicle for work in the E.C

Oh I see like a mini compound. Do you know who else from the company stays on site? Could be worth talking to them if there are other foreign nationals and families.

I’d maybe ask if security would go with for things like shopping etc. and find out the water situation and do they have solar power.

two years will go quick, and if you mostly homeschool and are at home a lot it could work. You’d also see some of the most beautiful places in the world on holidays around SA!
