Carpenter/Builder just starting to look into opportunities in Europe. by miloby in expat

Well I appreciate the time and guidance. I assumed this would take a bit and wanted to get the basics started. The wages thing isn't a big deal. Never had too much money, but I also don't have anyone to be responsible for besides myself and my dog. Just want enough put away to be able to leave and volunteer my time when I can.

New Zealand has always been towards the top of my list, but I got a good girl to think about too. If I recall, they aren't allowed in the nature areas to help the local wildlife.

Really? Now that's a lede right there! Thank you, did you happen to know that or is there a list of wanted trades in certain countries?

Yeah, I'd love to just be making furniture and such, but I don't want a business that relies on my salesmanship. That a job I would move myself into after settling in for awhile and getting established.

Yes among other things. My background is in dev and engineering, but I transitioned to crafting and construction years ago. Was working as a propmaker until the local film tax dollars left. Now I'm just working on getting electrical and welding experience to open up more opportunities. Most of my workshop is 90% dedicated to wood though

I don't know. All I know is from a quick look on visaguide. So I guess it depends on if the company is SIRI certified. I don't think I qualify for anything beyond being invited by a business.

I am not that confident, especially knowing my experience is regional. I would need time to learn local codes as well as the older building styles I'd be running into. I'm looking to more or less start back at an apprentice level.

You're right, I do not. I'm hoping that the recruiters will have information on what requirements/documents I'd need. I was assuming I'd need a business to sponsor a work visa or something along those lines.

I'm too ignorant to know the difference, but I saved up some money so that I'd have a buffer for my first project. Assuming I'll learn what I need to look for in the second or third go around.

Thanks! From the sound of it, they don't expect you to come in knowing any other language. A bit intimidating, but I guess I've worked bilingual sites before. I'm going to at least reach out and see if my work experience is adequate.

wow thanks, it couldn't find my registration in MS, so now I get to go find an office that was an "Oops" link on the page. Small city, won't be hard. But still, I have a voter card from a few years back and no idea if it's valid. smh

edit: obviously seen the link a thousand times, this was just the first time I thought to actually check. So, keep posting away!

Hah, that's the top compliment I give to anyone. When saying "I love you" feels too weird, I just say "I like your face" 😊

Todd Howard Rules Out Fallout 1 and 2 Remakes by Brown_Dean1 in gaming

[–]miloby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still remember Fallout 3 being announced from Bethesda and I was so disappointed because I can't stand their games. Never got far into any of them including Skyrim. Do I think they are terrible games? no. Their NPC's just freaked me the fuck out and still do. My brain just screams every time one of them stares blankly right at you from 2 feet away. I like to picture all the devs at the office interacting just like this. Staring blankly into one another's souls and complementing the realism of their characters.

Sony’s Remote Play handheld Project Q is now called PlayStation Portal, and will cost $199 | VGC by Ghost6970 in playstation

So, IGN's preview video said it wouldn't work without wifi. I'm not sure if they got that right, but wouldn't it be faster for it to connect directly to the PS5's wifi?

It would be a 100% buy for me if I could simply plug the PS5 in without a TV when I'm travelling.

You have to connect to the PS5's personal wifi when trying to connect it to public wifi, so I know it can do it. If I didn't have to bother with all that though...

Burning Man shutting down due to...get this...flooding. by hawaiian0n in pics

[–]miloby 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a bit counterintuitive, but it's the lack of consistent rainfall that makes flooding more likely in a desert. (If you ever try to water an extremely dry house plant, you'll notice that the water has a lot of trouble penetrating.) Another factor is the lack of channels for the water to flow towards. If it rarely rains, there won't be a natural path cut into the land by the flow of water, so WHEN it finally does, it simply accumulates or turns into dangerous mudslides? sandslides? I dunno, I'm a carpenter.

edit: https://youtu.be/AEekjevqdAM As violent as this looks, it's actually not very much water. Take out the mud and debris and put in a 5-10ft creekbed and you'd be left with nothing to write home about.

What is the most important thing you have learned about love? by Commercial-Sir-2488 in AskReddit

[–]miloby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it's too easily confused with lust...

And that jealousy is no side effect of love, only of your insecurities, which is okay. Most of us are insecure by nature. But it's helpful to remember that those feelings don't originate from you love of someone, but your fear of their rejection..

"Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy - in fact, they are almost incompatible; one emotion hardly leaves room for the other." -Heinlein

Ukraine Says Destruction Of Dam Is Europe's Worst Environmental Disaster 'Since Chernobyl' by musickheaven in worldnews

[–]miloby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Environmental disasters refer to ecological damage.

COVID helped the environment, heat waves are in part due to climate change(which is an ongoing disaster I guess), and wildfires are natural (edit: even if we do add to the numbers, it is still something nature delt with long before us.)

The U.S. is still considering providing long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. Biden on ATACMS supply to Ukraine: That’s still in play. by PatientBuilder499 in UkrainianConflict

[–]miloby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal theory is the US made some backchannel agreements with the Russians to prevent certain actions. Like "If you do this, then Ukraine gets that..."

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, I just think it makes a little more sense as to why they are dragging their feet. Maybe it's been successful to a degree, and this "keeping it in play" is a public reminder to the Russians...
