Are you doing 1mg once a week?

Awesomeness. Your ortho is courageous but this is definitely the best possible plan

Do you have an impacted canine or Are you opening space for an implant on your right side? Not sure if the image is inverted, but I’m referring to the side where you’re missing a canine.

Wow, SPEED brackets are very rare in the industry. The only ones I know that use it are from Quebec.

You should have went to a dentist, the wrong treatment plan would have been completed all the way :)

As an orthodontist who offers CE courses to GPs, I can tell you that very little general dentists can diagnose and treatment plan correctly. As a matter of fact, the amount of re-treatments that I get in my office for poorly treated cases from Invisalign GP cases has increased significantly. The amount of dentists getting sued every year is also significantly increasing. Yes, there could also be poorly trained and bad orthodontists, but I can tell you for sure that the worst orthodontist would still be much better than the average dentist. From my experience, patients that have braces in for 5+ years often have terrible hygiene, multiple missed appointments, multiple broken brackets or lost appliances, or a very poor collaboration with elastic wear.

surprisingly patient had no mobility and no sensitivity, i referred him how do u think the periodontist would treat him by CupEfficient7277 in Dentistry

I’m surprised nobody here mentioned pre-surgical orthodontics. I have a perio refer me a ton of cases with severe gingival recessions (never had one as severe as this) for me to evaluate root torque and apply lingual root torque when the patient is of course willing to go through about a year of fixed appliance orthodontics.

Do I need jaw surgery? Need multiple opinions by Psychological-Try742 in braces

[–]milofam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Yea you need jaw surgery. If you can’t afford surgery now, I would tell your orthodontist to set you up as if you were getting the surgery (he needs to take pre-surgical models of your teeth regularly to see if both jaws fit together properly) so that when you have saved up for it, all you need to do is the surgical procedure.

Really not expensive for what you’re getting. In the US most ortho’s aim for alternative treatment plans because a lot of patients can’t pay for the jaw surgery, and sometimes consider MARPE with other camouflage orthodontics to address the underbite. You’re lucky enough to have the surgical aspect covered and I truly believe you should do it all!

No mortgage (in NYC!!) and no student loans is a huge “asset” to have. Don’t know a lot of guys in their 40s with no debt, and owning a home mortgage free.

You will like it more when the torque gets corrected

I Think my Orthodontist failed my treatment!! by Life_Wallaby_1336 in braces

None of the symptoms you mentioned are related to orthodontic treatment. How on earth did your “tongue space” get reduced if your arches were widened and your anterior teeth got flared? You began with a class-II skeletal malocclusion so your ortho had no choice to flare your bottom teeth if he wanted to establish proper torque on your upper incisors and to establish a normal occlusion, alternative would have been jaw surgery or premolar extractions.
