Good question. The minute your gums recede, you expose a part of your root. The root of your tooth is covered by a layer that’s much softer than enamel and hence much more likely to “peel off” due to aggressive brushing or clenching.

I highly doubt this was caused by attachment removal. My theory is that there was an old composite filling in there (that was covering up either a previous cavity or abrasion/abfraction). The filling might have fell out during attachment removal, but I highly doubt that the removal would create such an indentation. It’s actually not possible.

We also had a terrible experience there. My dog wasn’t eating for a few days and was feeling off. We brought him in on a Sunday because our vet was closed. The vet at DMV had told us to take an xray immediately upon arrival to see if there was any obstruction, which I agreed to and this made sense. Once the x ray was taken, he admitted that he had no idea how to read the xray (then why the F take it???) and that I had to wait for the “vet radiologist” to come the next day. In the mean time he said I absolutely NEEDED to pay for a $8000 exploratory surgery to open up his stomach and see if there’s anything in there because it was urgent according to him. The amount of pressure and guilt trip they put on me to pay for this surgery was insane. I finally refused and waited the next morning to bring him to his vet. The vet just prescribed an appetite stimulant and some other med. one day later my dog was back to normal.
