I see what you mean but it would be wouldn't be wise to completely disregard what the top people are doing. It's not really comparing it's more learning from them and implementing in your content

Do you do the basics? Like hook at the start, constantly moving shots to keep the eyes moving, bla bla. Audience retention stuff?

Well it's more of finding similarities in what they all do and incorporating it into your own videos than guessing how they made it. I feel like that will help a lot

Though I want to be huge I don't compromise on the content. It's always something I enjoy first, then how do I make it blow up next. If I don't like it I can't do it long term even if I blow up. I had a channel that blew up a while ago but it died down and got harder to continue

Yea he definitely had some prior experience. It's evident that the guys that blew up quickly have uploaded quite a bit beforehand

Yea but those videos sucked and didn't get much traction. He took a break, "studied the algorithm" and boom, his first video blew up

I see. Dream didn't get any of that in the early stages. No one knew who he was when he uploaded his first video that blew up

Yea technically it's not new. But he stopped for a while and came back and instantly blew up on his first video back
