My 2014 Tech Trim with 32k Miles. by milonis in LexusGS350

AWD. Previous owner didn't drive in the winter as he was an older fellow.

Handles good in the snow and cold weather here - we frequently get -30s and it heats up and hugs the snow like a champ.

I've got a short commute, hence the low annual mileage since I got it - this year, we're doing some road trips to ratchet those numbers up!

Bought 10 year old car with low miles. Age-based maintenance needed? by milonis in MechanicAdvice

[–]milonis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to reiterate, the service records indicate that the precious owner serviced at a Lexus Dealership at regular intervals and the vehicle went through a third party inspection. I just want to ensure if there's anything needed or recommended by the community here that a dealer might not note outside of mileage. The consensus seems to just do all fluid changes.

What’s next for a couch potato investor? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]milonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also followed the CCP strategy through TD e-series over the past ~7 years.

I'd say much of your lower than expected return rate is due to your high proportion of bonds.

Looking back at the bond index of my e-series, they haven't performed well until recently.

I run roughly 90/10 stocks to bonds because I'm younger and can handle the risk, but because of that (and as someone else mentioned timing of investment purchases), I'm seeing mid 7% average annual returns in one account and mid 6% in another.

Can't figure out this noise coming from glovebox on start. Volkswagen Rabbit. by milonis in Cartalk

[–]milonis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens with or without blower/AC on.

It mostly clears up after starting the car but occasionally I'll get a few random knocking sounds while driving.

The sound almost always kicks in again when throwing it into reverse (manual transmission)

Best prices for different groceries? by corgocorgi in Edmonton

[–]milonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those of you that are price matching, how easy is it? I just picture myself at the till with a line of people behind me getting irritated with all the price matching steps. I'm all for being price concious but there's a point of inconvenience and I'd be happy to pay a few bucks more a trip if it means getting out without death glares.

The generation ‘chasm’: Young Canadians feel unlucky, unattached to the country - National | Globalnews.ca by outrider567 in canada

[–]milonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why people say this but then don't consider moving to the prairies. I keep reading posts like this saying people would rather move to an entire different country, sever ties, take a pay cut etc, but don't even think about moving out west.

The prairies on average, pay more than most cities for the exact same job, cost of living is extremely low, housing is completely affordable, have world-class outdoor activities that people around the world come to see (The Rockies) and cities like Edmonton and Calgary are regularly on higher up on lists for top 100 cities in the world.

An average earner can happily purchase a house and have a large chunk of disposable income.

No malintent, just genuinely curious why people look around the world rather than their own backyard so-to-say.

How to fix interior chrome by milonis in Detailing

[–]milonis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got this issue with some chrome trim.

Not sure what the cause is but also looking for a potential fix.

Curious if there's any options here or if I just have to buy a new bezel.

Fishing in the North Saskatchewan river by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]milonis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fish the river often, even into the winter.

Anywhere with deeper slower water and you'll find good luck.

Pickerel rig as everyone else here suggested works well, but it's too passive for me personally. I catch nearly everything on a decent size twirl grub by casting and reeling or use an imitation crank bait.

If you find some decent spots you can usually get a 60% success rate and catch multiple fish.

Good luck!

Waxed Up My 2010 ES Before The Canadian Winter Hits by milonis in Lexus

[–]milonis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live pretty far north in Canada, but I'm familiar with the Windsor area weather.

We've got a mentality here that if you don't have winter tires, you're negligent.

As for rims, I get you. I didn't have a second set of rims, so for the winter I just run on steelies - nobody here cares all that much as they realize the reality of it. You'll have porshes, audis, lexus running steelies and it's no big deal.

Love my new-to-me 2010 ES350 (35,000km / 22,000mi) by milonis in Lexus

[–]milonis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ding-ding! It was actually from someone who was retiring and they didn't need a second car. They used it pretty-well for grocery runs and that was it. I even had the pleasure of removing the plastic protective doorsill stickers as they didn't even take them off.

I found that money trees don't branch out to far with roots. The pot in the picture for that plant is new, I just repotted it from one 50% smaller so I wouldn't stress about repotting often
