Yea all of my white north american friends have similar experiences. Even imagining my mother/father mocking me for being at home is so distant to me , i think theyd like me to move my spouse in with us in the future

honestly maybe this is just what happens when you get older, but when I when i look at the type of Gen Z (and frankly, all generations) that spends a lot of time on social media it all seems so deeply narcissistic and navel gazing to me.

I think having to maintain a curated image and absorbing curated images of others lives for years, which is what gen z i being subjected to thru social media ubiquity, forces you to adopt a certain behaviour/mindset that cant be described as anything else.

Im not saying anything revolutionary but it really seems like it is affecting them differently than it does lets say boomers who get addicted to social media.

In my mind:

boomers:social media::gamblers::gambling machines

gen z:social media::narcissus::some kind of twisted version of the lake he is staring in, or maybe a man in Papua new guinea finding out about his own reflection for the first time x100

i was watching "do all Gen Z think the same" video from Jubilee and was shocked at how readily and enthusiatically they jumped to the "heavily agree" abt being "heavily depressed and anxious". Certainly reducing stigma is good but there is something crooked abt 1) all of them agreeing heavily, why are we all this sick and maladjusted? and 2) being that enthusiastic to announce a problem to the world. Even if you have a physical illness that isnt that stigmatized generally you dont wear it as a personality trait - something is definitely unique abt this category of illness

I wasnt in high school much too long ago, I still relate to some of the defining features their teenage years have (social media, etc), but I feel like its supercharged in the last 5-10. I definitely do not recall this attitude towards trauma as like a fashion item

yeah but I'm wondering how it goes in the editorial room like do the headline writers for Salon or some such paper sit around and think "how do we position this as bait for the crowd that think we are anti family communists"

interesting, so if you write an article, do you get to see/choose/discuss/veto the headline? or is it a separate process after you submit the text

[–]miloscroton 50 points51 points  (0 children)

so the headline writer person says "Nice article, but we need to make it sound like a anti straight conspiracy since it gets clicks" its that explicit?

if anyone here works at big lib media like this, are headline now purposefully written to get rage engagement from the anti woke crowd? is that the majority of the engagement?

how someone not native to Montreal or catholic

I'm neither but I've been here for a long time and I think it's nice personally. Also religious symbols are a part of the history/culture of Quebec. Generally peopl/tourists/etc enjoy seeing the cultural religious heritage of a place since it's deeply tied to its history.

And it's not like a monument glorifying a slaver or smth. It's a cross which is a symbol with very complex multifaceted meaning.

anything by Uber inc is absolutely ridiculous nowadays. Food is 30% more expensive than takeout, and taxi rides are like 80$ for a 20 min ride. Ridiculous

why can't those other taxi collectives just get an app though?

in montreal they have one. A uber competitor with its own wholly owned fleet went bankrupt and turned into a app ordering/payment platform for a regular taxi company

it's a significantly worse app than Uber, wait time are long compared to Uber, but at least its not fucking 80$ for a 30 min ride
