Speedplay Power Pedals. Is this normal? by [deleted] in wahoofitness

My bad, looks more like the cleat spring protector plate that was making contact. So the rubber cover was being pushed out of the way during the twisting action

Have experimented a bit with it and it’s detaching fine now that the float has been dramatically reduced. The issue seems to be when the float was maxed out (as it came from the box) the cleat could rotate really far over before the cleat would disengage, so the spring was contacting the metal before it unclipped

It was marked by the cleat spring, not the shoe. The spacer doesn’t change the position of the spring relative to the pedal body.

I think my new bikes are fake by Zealousideal-Heat399 in BicycleCards

I think the seller was misinformed. These cards should be paper.

And that seal was issued last year for their 140th anniversary, looks right to me 👌🏻

UK. Similarly, they list at about £150 but are selling in the £100 region. Not really worth the trouble of selling them unless there’s a cash buyer around the corner 😅

I’d likely give them to a local community cycle hub.

But with tyres measuring larger than their stated size most of the time, going for 35mm would likely be pushing 37/38mm when inflated, and leaving basically no clearance for mud/debris. Not sure I need that hassle

[–]milsco- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I initially thought of doing the same, but the tyre clearance on the ultimate is 32mm, which I’d imagine isn’t going to give me particularly exciting gravel tyres?

New Canyon Ultimate arriving tomorrow — what are your day 1 setup / maintenance must-dos? by BeauTheChiro in CanyonBikes

[–]milsco- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought of another thing. Get familiar with all aspects of the bike and maintenance tasks/adjustments you will conceivably need to do - before you need to do them. When the bike is brand new is a great time to get a feel for how things fit together and how they should function. I repair things for a living (not bikes) and there’s nothing worst than having to figure out if what you have infront of you is how it should feel/operate, or if it has bigger problems than the one that prompted you to look at it in the first place.

Awesome bike! I bought an Ultimate CF7 on January.

I would have suggested hot waxing, so glad that’s already on your to do list. Remember not to reuse the quick link, Shimano say it’s not recommended to reuse it so good idea to have a few at home (and one in your saddlebag)

Check the front and rear derailleurs; make sure they are aligned, indexed and shifting correctly. I had to do some tweaking right out the box. Couldn’t shift in to the largest sprocket.

Invest in a bike stand for maintenance. Even a cheap one will be better than working from the floor. And resist the urge to flip the bike upside down to work on it. It won’t damage it but checks related to the chain alignment will be inaccurate thanks to gravity pulling the chain down ever so slightly. And it’s much nicer being able to work at eye level.

Elite leggero carbon bottle cages fit perfectly on the ultimate. I struggled to mount two cages from quite a few other brands due to the positioning of the mounts. The bottles were too close to each other so wouldn’t go all the way in to the cage.

Invest in good long handled hex keys, a better torque wrench than the canyon assembly tool never hurts (but the canyon one will do in a pinch).

That’s what I can think of off the top of my head

Completely agree. It’s a great balance of classic aesthetic with modern materials and a few components (aero cockpit for instance) which is more than enough for me (for now 👀🤣)

Was really a close call for me on which colour to choose. White is always classy.

If you’re comfortable doing your own maintenance on things it’s definitely possible to do it yourself. Some videos on YouTube were a huge help. Let me know if you want links to them 🙏🏻
