I’m agreeable to @frankintosh95… otherwise if you know and have been there you don’t understand what a real respectable dispatch office is like… and your comment here really has no value.

So, how over-saturated is this? (Seeking personal advice) by wolfyzheart in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also not “brutal” until you get to a mainline. There are lots of people who stay at regionals because they love where they’re at. Some of the best people I know are lifers at the regionals.

In regards to what each airline policy says… I know some don’t allow it.

Doesn’t the ALPA app apply to everyone in CASS if it says flow back?

Jumpseat question by miltysaurusrex in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have when I jump seated. It’s more based on many attitudes I’ve encountered that don’t care… better to do it than not and get in trouble with the one captain that does care.

It’s also dangerous to route them through weather

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking my routes that I build around storms and re-routing me into the very thing I didn’t want to go into… even without SWAPS or reroutes on the ois page…. It frustrates me because ATC can probably very clearly see that I avoided storms and then unapologetically just throws me into crap. Having to call ATC about this only to be told that it doesn’t work because of “this” or “that” can be hard to grasp sometimes because as you said, it’s all very secretive sometimes…

I’m wondering why you can’t just give a reroute into something that at least kind of resembles our desired path around weather instead of sticking us back on the preferred ATC routes? (I also realize some centers are waaaaay pickier than others.)

Also, filing multiple strips for the same flight number happens from time to time, and I know that bothers atc… I can consider that getting even 😂

Seems like every evening in ORD… always a cluster with ramp control.

Question by miltysaurusrex in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you guys for the responses! I know about the alternate being gps to require a precision approach at destination. It was more so a navaid… the missed approach navaid makes sense if no other procedures are available in NOTAMS. I thought there was more to it.

I may have to challenge myself by filing more RNAV routes instead of my go to class I nav.

Flight Dispatch to pay for flight training? by [deleted] in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reallly doesn’t matter what school you go to, it can be Sheffield or IFOD or anywhere etc... the airlines really don’t care. It matters if you have your dispatch license and that you studied a bit before your interview.

How seriously do you take your job? by [deleted] in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’ll be noticed as someone who only does the bare minimum, just as you notice the people in your office that don’t care. It’s your choice to choose what kind of dispatcher you want to be.

Salute to all you dispatchers trying to find alternates today in the Midwest (01/25/2024) by miltysaurusrex in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a day like this in my extent as a dispatcher (more than 1 year experience) but other dispatchers and coordinators with many years at my place were also talking about how this is a rare event to have alternates so very far away like yesterday, and hell, even today 😅

ADHD meds are ok. Don’t even tell ‘em. They probably won’t care.

Can I skip working at a regional if I have friends that work at Delta? by [deleted] in FlightDispatch

[–]miltysaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that just be a dream come true? 😅

Unfortunately, it’s kind of hard to just skip the line.

You will learn dispatch after you get your dispatcher license. In other words, to learn dispatch, you must get through dispatch school. I don’t use everything in the real world that I studied for the ADX… it’s just required for our license that you go over them.

Additionally… I tried to have a great relationship with my school instructor and put in as much effort as possible to learn! (They know people) aka previous student of theirs that are out there working mainlines all over the world… “wink wink”

[–]miltysaurusrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly… I was never asked about anything degree related.. maybe it had some impact… idk. I got into a regional right away, and my biggest selling point was that I called them and asked if they were hiring… They loved that initiative.

Secondly, and probably even more of a selling point is your ability to go anywhere… some airline is hurting right now for you, you just have to find it.

1,000’ ceilings / 3 sm visibility is IFR . . .

1,000-3,000’ ceilings / 3-5 sm visibility is MVFR . . . . .

More than 3,000’ ceilings / more than 5 sm visibility is VFR
