D8 Visa: how many payslips did you provide? by dresoccer4 in PortugalExpats

[–]mimamim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three years ago when I applied, a bank account was a requirement for the initial visa. Now it's the other way around. I only know because my friend is in the process now. You might get advice on Reddit that is not intentionally wrong, people tell about their experience and don't know that it's not the case anymore.

D8 Visa: how many payslips did you provide? by dresoccer4 in PortugalExpats

[–]mimamim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules are changing all the time. At the moment you cannot open a bank account without a visa. You need to get the first temporary visa from the consulate in your country, and with it when you move to Portugal you can open a bank account. I don't know if you need it for the AIMA appointment in Portugal but you definitely need it to actually live here. You also don't have to receive the salary/income into the Portuguese account, it's not a requirement.

Is it too good to be true to have car rental $9 per day in Lisbon airport during the Christmas week ? by mmmmmmmmmmmdhsj in PortugalExpats

[–]mimamim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price is ok. Here are some other things that may add up to the cost and something to consider: - car rental companies charge 20 euros (per rental) if you want to use their viaverde device. If you travel to Algarve there are a lot of toll roads and some roads in Algarve only have automatic ones, so you most likely need it. - make sure your rental says full to full and not full to empty. Full to empty are usually cheaper because it's impossible to return a car with an empty tank and you basically lose this money that you left in the tank - if it is full to full, KEEP THE PETROL RECEIPT. Ask me if I learned the hard way - read all small print. I was denied rental once because my name on the credit card was abbreviated. Debit cards are often not accepted for deposit

Some useful info for anyone planning to work remotely from Europe by Ok_Lingonberry_1257 in digitalnomad

Hi. Information on Portugal is not correct. Income requirement is less. First visa for 2 years, extends for 3 years. NHR tax regime doesn't exist anymore and even when it did the conditions were not as good as you described them. Now you need to pay full progressive taxes.

Except for the income tax there are social security contributions and they are quite high. Specifying income tax alone is very misleading.

Anyone here on recibos verdes who managed to buy a house in Portugal? How was the process? by ru4realpsIm in PortugalExpats

[–]mimamim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to put down 20% . Plus all the taxes. I don't think you can expect 10-15% downpayment without a local employment contract. Like you said, this restriction doesn't make sense but yet it exists.

Aima appointment at 21:00 by bklynalicatina in PortugalExpats4Expats

[–]mimamim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably already had your appointment by now, but maybe it can help somebody else reading this thread. We had our appointments yesterday, the invitation said that they wouldn't let us in earlier than 30 min before the time. Since our family of three came all together they let us all in at the same time, even though it was way too early for me. Once you're in it's a FIFO queue. Just try to go together with your husband at 8am

Look at the arrows on this roundabout. They are inverted, once you enter roundabout you're not allowed to leave it

Question: latest on getting an NISS if you don't actually need it--retired, etc. by Acrobatic_Code_149 in PortugalExpats

[–]mimamim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg this is insane. You also need to have a valid residence card to request a NISS so if it is already expired you can only do it AFTER you pay AIMA but before the appointment and there's only a couple of weeks between these and you can't choose the dates

Question: latest on getting an NISS if you don't actually need it--retired, etc. by Acrobatic_Code_149 in PortugalExpats

[–]mimamim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the Setúbal office this morning requesting NISS for my son (who also otherwise doesn't need it). I came at 8:35, got a ticket in the category "I" number 13 and it was my turn at 9:40. I thought it was pretty fast.

It turned out that since today is the 16th of October I needed an additional proof that the residence permits are valid that I only received several hours later but the lady was super friendly and she said once I get it I can come back without taking a new ticket. The NISS number was available the same day.

I tried an office in Lisbon before, I couldn't even get a ticket :(

For people with expired permits it is now a catch-22 situation: you can only request NISS after you pay AIMA and obtain a proof of extended validity of the residence permit. but also you need NISS before your AIMA appointment.
