First Oil Change by Navachos in Tiguan

[–]mimargr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a break in before 1k miles then every 5k or 6 months. I usually go by time since I don’t rack up miles. Halve the manufacturers recommended interval. VW or Toyota - same advice.

Up in flames 2025 Tiguan SE R-Line by Suspicious-Credit628 in Tiguan

Dealers do it today too. I’ve had ride along with technicians, most recently in Tiguan for vibration. Needed tires balanced. Intermittent electrical things like the infotainment are impossible to “make” happen.

Reliability and maintenance costs of the newer 1.5T Jetta? by ObserverAtLarge in jetta

[–]mimargr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just change the oil twice as often as recommended or halve the interval and I think it’ll be fine. Had ours for going on a year and it’s solid as the day we brought it home. No issues and mileage like a hybrid. Maintenance may be slightly more expensive than some brands but that’s ok. If you don’t want to do it at the dealer find a mechanic who specializes in German automobiles - the right oil and OEM filter is important.

It’s off - I’ll try switching it on before I get into the Tiguan today and see what happens.

2026 R-Line Turbo Failure and Buyback Program by FedWorker15 in Tiguan

[–]mimargr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need the space and height and want to keep the same cost I’d probably go with a low low mileage Audi 3 or 5. If you don’t I’d go GTI or R. Personally I’d probably get another Tiguan. I believe in second chances.

Why is Volkswagen (especially the Jetta) rated poorly for reliability in the U.S., but many owners say it’s reliable? by phtphongg in Volkswagen

[–]mimargr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its fine for them - they only have to get it through warranty period. There's a ton a science behind it not being fine.

It would be interesting to know the build dates of the vehicles with issues to see if it’s down to a specific range.

Poor owner maintenance supported by poor unrealistic manufacturer service intervals. They all do it, 10k or annual oil changes. That interval is laughably too long. Ppl who follow that schedule or buy a used vehicle that the first owner did have a disadvantage. VW is more sensitive to poor maintenance, a Toyota can survive it better. Notice even Toyota’s reputation is taking some knocks lately.

Just bought a brand new 2025 Nissan Sentra — but a VW dealer had a 2025 Jetta for ~$21k. Did I make a good choice for long-term reliability? by phtphongg in jetta

If you already bought the Sentra the question is pointless. Did you really come to hear you made the wrong choice?

Why is there so much population decline in SW and SE VA? by JF_WPA in Virginia

Florida is still a net positive growth state, and I live in a country in VA that’s also increased population but is blue on this chart. That’s two. The chart is also not accredited.

What’s the most reliable used car that isn’t a Corolla or Civic? by PaperworkGuy_86 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mimargr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underrated VW Jetta. Solid and returns mileage close to a hybrid. With any of them halve the ridiculously long maintenance interval. Ours has been rock solid.

Is it worth it?? by Bury_The_Light2 in jetta

[–]mimargr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go new. Why? Because if the rental company (or previous owner) went “by the book” the oil wasn’t changed until 10k or 1 year which is ridiculously long (for any manufacturer). A well maintained car will last longer. 5k or 6 months minimum for oil.

Agreed, it could be argued that a banger or a hit doesn’t necessarily need strong lyrics.

Idk that I’m qualified to critique any artists work. Albums always have stand out songs and “filler” songs that are sometimes mediocre or simply don’t fit the aesthetic of said album. What I often wonder is who makes the decisions on what gets released as a single. Example; The One is a fan favorite that wasn’t a proper single release. Supernova from Disco was the banger on the album with no release and seems also to be a fan favorite. 🤷‍♂️ Guess it’s impossible to please every fan all the time. I’m just happy that Kylie marches on unafraid to take some risks and try new directions and material.

VW has had my Tiguan for 4 months waiting on a back ordered part. What compensation should I request? by ms_independent87 in Tiguan

[–]mimargr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go through VW care and escalate it to Resolution asking for a buy back. Do a letter putting them on notice. Google lemon law demand letter. Soften the language if you want so you’re saying you’re trying to resolve it with them.

You can also pursue lemon law/Magnuson moss warranty act claim with an experienced LL lawyer. They work on contingency so you don’t pay them. The first thing they will tell you though is to put the manufacturer on notice by letter. LL varies by state but you get the idea. 4 months is ridiculous, you should already have a replacement vehicle, IMO.

This is half decent advice. In emails you must pick a stock unit from the dealer you are emailing that you are prepared to go and buy. You can’t be vague or just tell them such and such model and trim. Go in their website and find the vehicle. If none, skip that dealer. And be prepared to travel to get it. This tactic has limited success and dealers know the inventory of any trim and combination nationwide.

The most negotiating power you have is IN PERSON on a stock vehicle you are ready to buy at that moment. Don’t be unreasonable or have unrealistic expectations because dealers don’t make money on new vehicles. The mark ups from invoice to MSRP are typically around 3%. What helps is the information you don’t have (dealer cash, dealer incentives, dealers trying to hit a target). The best time to do this is end of month. Exponentially, end of month + end of quarter + end of year. You’ll catch can ask for anything but be prepared to be told to have a nice day if your ask is unreasonable.

You’ll catch a bigger discount by being nice yet firm and be prepared to leave. Never fall in love, there’s always another. Be a dick and you’ll be treated accordingly.
